Under /etc/ there is a file resolv.conf, perhaps that has wrong servers in it.
But a good idea might be to try a live USB with Mint17.1 and if that works well then migrate her to that new version.

Is your laptop not displaying the wireless adapter like it has been removed? Then try this -

turn the device off
remove the battery
After putting the battery back again everything should work as usual.

Yes, Spamassasin is an alternative for MailWasher. But there are also other alternatives - Cloudmark DesktopOne, POPFile, SpamFence.Net, etc. No doubt Spamassasin is the best for all installations.

There's only one way of to switch between workspaces which you have tried. But by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Up you can run Expo and visualize all the workspaces. You can also move a window close to an edge for a little while to move it to an adjacent workspace.
