[SOLVED] No System Sounds

I've run into an issue with the system sounds (login, logout, alerts, etc.) not working anymore. Banshee still plays music, games still have sound, and sounds on webpages in Google Chrome still work great. I searched around and tried installing the Ubuntu Tweak program that was recommended and using...

Re: Odd CPU and Memory behavior

I have "Lock the computer when inactive" set to 30 minutes, "Turn the screen off after" set to 1 hour, and "Suspend when inactive" set to Never. I checked the Update Manager's preferences and changed it to get updates after 6 hours instead of 2 hours.

Re: How do I un-bloat my Mint?

It's not letting me attach my screenshot, so here's a link http://imageshack.com/a/img922/5726/aliLtW.png Here are the folder properties: 18 items, totalling 5.1 kB. That sounds pretty reasonable. I also opened the file outlined the link and limited the log size to 100MB, log daily, and only keep 3 ...

Re: How do I un-bloat my Mint?

Ok, I did delete it's contents and free up space. Thanks for bearing with me as I come from a Windows background and tend to get overly anxious about deleting things from system folders... So Is there a way to prevent it from filling up again or should I just go in there and manually delete i...

Re: Odd CPU and Memory behavior

I wanted to believe the System Monitor too, however I noticed the temps were also rising in my "CPU Temperature Monitor Applet." Normally at idle I get temps < 30C, when the monitor was acting up the temps jumped 10C to almost 40C indicating that it was definitely thinking a little harder about some...

Re: How do I un-bloat my Mint?

Ok, I did manage to find it. It won't let me post the screenshot so here's the URL http://imageshack.com/a/img922/8224/6c4M53.png I followed this guide https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/ssd and it said that trim should run automatically at startup. I ran it anyway from the terminal ...

Odd CPU and Memory behavior

I noticed sometimes after I let Mint sit long enough for the monitor to turn off, when it comes back the CPU usage for 2 random cores is 100% (and it'll keep switching cores randomly 2 at a time). also when this happens, it says that all the unused memory becomes "Cached." I'm using the "Multi-core ...

Re: How do I un-bloat my Mint?

Thank you for your reply. I went into Synaptic's Preferences and it was already set to delete files after installation. I also changed the "History Files" setting to delete the history after 1 day and clicked "Delete Cached Package Files." Unfortunately, that didn't change anything. Using the disk a...

[Solved] How do I un-bloat my Mint?

So I noticed today that I only have 12GB left free of my 50GB Mint partition on my SSD. I've only had mint installed for 2 weeks and that's a lot of writing on my SSD, which kinda scares me. I ran the disk analyzer tool and it says that my var folder is the culprit at 30GB. What is in there, how do ...

ePSXe issues

I've been trying unsuccessfully to get ePSXe 1.9.25 for linux to work on Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64 bit. I can get it running and it will let me map the keys on my controller but when the game actually starts, no controller inputs are recognized. I'm using a wired XBox360 controller. Also, I am unable to...

Re: Linux: Tricks of the Trade -- tips from our members

I hope these count as tips. I learned this the hard way when trying to boot my Mint Cinnamon live disk. I couldn't get it boot into the desktop and after some research I figured out it was my Nvidia graphics card. I followed the instructions I found about it but it still wouldn't go into the desktop...

Hello Community!

Hello Linux Mint community! I am a newbie to Linux Mint. I just installed Mint Cinnamon 17.3 to dual boot from the same SSD as a Windows 10 installation on a homebuilt PC. I chose Mint because I've read that it's a very user-friendly OS and because I've been having a lot of random BSOD issues with W...
