Re: Question for Americans

Hi Vladimir, Well, from my perspective, you don't see much (I do not watch mainstream media news) I must admit I at times watch RT news on public television, which doesn't usually show much more. For me, and I'm not a real big You-Tuber, but I find a lot of videos from that part of the world, whethe...

Re: bring the weather app back

simple enough bring the weather app back to new installs, I'm unaware of the implications of my request but since it's removal I kind of miss it. You could take my-weather-indicator for a test drive and see how you like it. Its in the Software Manager. I've used it for a few years now without issue.

Re: LibreOffice always full screen, can't access my panel

So <Ctl> + <Shift> + <J> is giving you the menu bar, but not panel visibility, regardless? It works here/cannot replicate, so not sure why it would behave like that. If you are experiencing lag with the key command above, I would trying restarting your computer, then test again. If LibreOffice has a...

Did you try <Ctl> + <Shift> + <J> ?

That should toggle the full-screen view.

Re: Package Manager vs Downloading Opera

Far as I know, it hasn't been tweaked. Don't know why there is 2020 reviews on Software Center for Opera...that version (12.16) is from around 2014, so is old. Current stable is v.68.xx and beta is v.69.xx. I use the beta here, but I would suggest sticking with the stable, for trying it out to see i...

Re: Nemo confusion when overwriting files

Is this on your 19.3 with Cinnamon? I have never seen that pop-up dialogue look like that. I just checked 18, 18.3, and 19.2, and they all look pretty much like this: cp_test.png Is the picture you posted all there is in the pop-up? You don't see the three buttons at the bottom--cancel/skip/replace?...

Presuming you're using Cinnamon. Go to Menu --> Preferences --> Keyboard , and open it up. Go to the shortcuts tab on top, and then select the Add custom shortcut . You should have this dialog box pop up..fill it as shown: applets_shorcut.png Click the "Add" button. Then highlight by single clicking...

Re: Cinnamon display refresh rate setting?

You have to go to the Xserver Display Configuration page where you changed the refresh rate to 60Hz. Then, (presuming you've already selected 60Hz, and clicked "Apply"), at the bottom right of that page, you have to click on "Save to X Configuration FIle." A small dialogue box will pop up. If you ha...

Re: Cinnamon display refresh rate setting?

Did you verify the /etc/X11/xorg.conf had your changes? Typically saves it to the "Screen" section and as a "option metamodes" line. Should be a line in that file that appears similar to this: Option "metamodes" "DVI-I-1: 1440x900 +2072+0, HDMI-0: 3840x2160 +3512+0, DP-0: 1920x1080 +0+0" --but, has ...

Re: Cinnamon display refresh rate setting?

In Nvidia-settings, click on X Server Display Configuration, and you see it similar to below. Click on the monitor you want to adjust in the Layout section, then on the line "Resolution:", if the second dropdown box says Auto, click on it, and your available choices will be listed. You'll have to sa...

You are correct, it is a security measure, and the encrypted items are pruned out in your /etc/updatedb.conf file.

snippet from updatedb.conf:

Are you a member, and logged in?

Have you visited before, and this is the first time you've had issues?

Not a Linux-related problem..does it on Windows 10 as well. Some forums have means of blocking member images unless you are signed in.

Teddy, In Disk Utility, did you click on "view", and select show all? Was just curious because your video doesn't show much in they way of containers/volumes/etc. Give this a watch: https://youtu.be/EcRlrGpKGh8 And some light reading: https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/disk-utility/dskutl14027/ma...

Re: Cannot resize when creating a partition for Linux Mint using Mac Disk Utility

Search on line for some guidance on setting up dual boot. Find search results that talk about disabling Journaling. I didn't take good notes when I did my a couple years ago, but I believe you need to get in to terminal, on your MAC, and disable Journaling, before you can re-size. You re-enable it a...

Re: Cannot resize when creating a partition for Linux Mint using Mac Disk Utility

Hi Teddy,

Good that you've already backed up your info. I believe you need to shrink your existing partition to create free space first, then create the linux partition(s) as FAT. Mac has "containered" the whole hard drive space-- so reduce its size first to give free space for you to work with.

Re: Is encryption tied to the motherboard?

So, what exactly do you see at start up? Do you get the grub menu screen (dual OS..do you see Windows as an option?) Or are you being prompted for a password before even seeing grub? Since your hard drive is encrypted, and you have seen the "Access-Your-Private-Data", you could try as was suggested ...

Re: Is encryption tied to the motherboard?

So are you saying you ran the hard drive encrypted withe old motherboard? Since your motherboard was just replaced, it should not have a BIOS password set on it..unless you explicitly told the repair person to put one in for you. Try booting a live session USB and see if the hard drive is visible (l...
