Re: UPS software/ Apcupsd still maintained?

Hi Netherprovinc3, I use the apcupsd tool. It’s just a basic tool, so I’m not too worried about updates, as it serve my needs. It’s used with basic config file and can be tested/tweaked/status-checked in terminal. I have an old APC PowerChute disc running around somewhere; there was something for Li...

Re: Errno 30 when installing

Have you done anything for the hard drive at all? Boot to live session, open Gparted, build new partition table, then make your partitions for “/“ (root), Home, or whatever else you want, put a boot flag on the / (root) partition, let it format the partitions, then close out and try your install aga...

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140

It doesn't happen to you that when you start a folding project on the graphics card, a constant sound begins that I have no idea what it is, while in games that is not heard. Does anyone know why that is? Yes, likely fan noise..your GPU is being pretty heavily tasked while folding, especially if yo...

Re: Black boot screen with Tricia tty1

Hi hybris2,

Glad you were able to get in. Yes, a full root directory is going to give you grief. Good on you for figuring that out and correcting the partition size. Now put the old machine through its paces (as much as it can handle, anyway  ) and see if everything you want to use, works.

Re: Errno 30 when installing

Is your new drive a second drive? Is it external— if so you should try a different cable on it. I take it the live session is working OK? In live session, can Gparted see your drive(s) correctly? Just to confirm, is there a Windows install on this machine?

Re: Errno 30 when installing

Did you verify the ISO? If so, I’d try burning it to a different USB stick...rare, but not unheard of for a defective one to cause this.

Re: Black boot screen with Tricia tty1

Have you tried rebooting again since posting the above screenshot, and if so, are you getting the same results? No errors listing, during the boot process? Once you are logged in on tty1, type this: systemctl get-default , and reply back with what the response was. IF the response was " graphical.ta...

Re: Disable a specific PCI device in GRUB

You could try going to your BIOS Setup at power-on, and find the graphics settings, and toggle it to Integrated only, if the option is available. If this is a possibility, try it, and once the PC is repaired, return it to its original value. If you’re not sure how to get in to BIOS, read your screen...

Yep, same thing here still. Stanford server must be having issues. Multiple people on the F@H forum not getting work units/IP checks show unavailable. Let it sit and wait is all we can do.

Are you talking about the panel bar? Mint19_Panel.png If so: Open a terminal by pressing the Ctl+Alt+t keys together. Then, in terminal, type cinnamon-settings Once that opens, select the Applets icon, then scroll through the list and make sure your panel launcher and system tray are selected. You s...

Re: ACPI BIOS error / Soft lockup

Can you stop your system at GRUB during start up, by repetitively tapping the shift key or ESC key depending upon your PC. Once you have successfully stopped at GRUB, look for the system you want to start (likely top choice if only your only OS). Tab down to it with the down arrow, the tap the "e" k...

Re: Enabling Sound in Terminal

Do you have a specific example of what you're looking for with regards to notifications? With whatever command you run, your "notification" is going to be what is printed back to display, in terminal, as applicable. As for sound, there is a bell function, but it doesn't do much. Pretty much seems to...

Re: Software for copying drives

...How the heck did you get it to work? I tried recovery USB sticks from both the free version and V6 paid version (set to Intellisector cloning) and couldn't get a clone that would boot. I guess I’m the odd one, I like using dd. Used it one time to clone a near-dead hard drive on a work laptop tha...

Re: Installed mint on chromebook but it still boots into chrome OS

What make/model of Chromebook specifically? How much storage space and RAM does it have? I've previously installed Gallium OS (lightweight OS, optimized to run on Chromebooks) on an older Acer C720, and the prep/install steps are notably more in-depth than what you mentioned. Do you have a webpage r...

Re: No answer to why power manager asking for authentication to suspend

Hi kdlm, Hmm..this one seems a little difficult to assist with remotely. Lets try digging up a little more info. Try suspending a couple times to see if you can get it to cause the authentication to pop up. When it does, enter your password and try to suspend. After waking it back up, run the follow...

Re: No answer to why power manager asking for authentication to suspend

Your logind.suspend section is the same as what I see on five different systems here, with the exception of the one system I previously mentioned that I edited. (btw, it is not recommended to typically edit this file directly as it may get overwritten on a susbsequent update.) There is a way to make...

Re: No answer to why power manager asking for authentication to suspend

Hi kdlm, You didn't expand the "details" before you took your screenshot. Is this the comment it shows in the details: < Authentication is required to update SMART data > If so, can you see if you have this file: /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/ org.freedesktop.udisks2.policy If you have that, open it i...

Re: Opening a MAC file

Hi Stob, You don't need to go to a website for that. Its in the Software Manager . Run Software Manager , type "sqlite", and it should show up near the top. Once installed, it should show up as DB Browser for SQLite , under Accessories, in your Menu. sqlitebrowser.png I had also forgot to mention, t...

Stob, The contacts on a Mac, are filled out in the GUI on a easy to read "card", but in reality, the saved contacts are written to a database. In your /Users/Yourusername/Library/Application Support/AddressBook , are three files named: addressbook-v22.abcddb addressbook-v22.abcddb-wal addressbook-v2...

Re: Stereo sound manipulation

Welcome! I second MrEen's comments, as I can't think of anything that will automatically adjust individual channel sound level, based on what channel the sound is coming through (I think that's what you wanted in Step 1?) For your second step, you could try QasHctl from the Software Manager . If you...
