Re: How to downgrade to Mint 9?

If you don't already have the Mint 9 disk you will need to download the .iso and create one. http://www.linuxmint.com/release.php?id=13 I would suggest you download the Gnome DVD version if you want a familiar desktop. ( Just my personal opinion ) Then just install right over the Mint 12 installatio...

Re: Mint 12 install problem

This is just a guess but... The next step when you click on Continue , the installer probes the drive for other operating systems and it makes me wonder... Do you have the drive plugged into SATA 3.0 slot or SATA 2.0 ? And is the Hard drive set in Bios as IDE or AHCI ? I have had problems in the pas...

Re: Is the Helena 8 still receiving updates?

Helena may not still being updated but you can still install packages if you change your sources.list and you can update with all the updates that were released till end of support. I still run Gloria Mint 7 on my desktop computer and this works for Gloria so hopefully it will also work for Helena. ...

Re: Dual boot XP/Lisa on seperate HD

Keep Lisa as primary drive so it will use the Grub. It will probably default to Lisa as the default boot but I'm sure there is a way to change the default. I just don't know it right off. There used to be a Startup Manager in older versions but I don't think 12 has it anymore. I'll check how to chan...

Startup Manager for Mint 13

I hope that Mint 13 will have a Startup Manager installed by default.
Would also be nice to have "Services" in addition to "Startup Applications" in Control Center , the way older versions used to have both.

Re: Dual boot XP/Lisa on seperate HD

I think this should do it...

Open terminal and type

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub

When you hit enter it will ask for your password ( it won't show what your typing. Just type it and hit enter :) )
Then reboot

Re: Slow boot on mint 11

Sorry , all out of ideas. :( Don't know what to think... I've heard Mint 11 has some issues with laptops and can be kinda buggy. Also heard others have no problems, I like Mint 9 cuz it's LTS and is super stable on this Dell laptop. And I really liked Mint 10 also on a different computer. I didn't r...

Re: Slow boot on mint 11

what is the number inside [] mean ?? I'm pretty sure it is Seconds . I don't know if it's a good idea to update kernel. It was just something I found while Googleing the error. If it was me as a last resort I'd activate levels 4 and 5 in Mint Update Manager and upgrade the kernel that way. Less like...

Re: PokerTH

Got to Menu - Package Manager - then type in search box pokerth install pokerth and pokerth-data Apply and your good to go :) Always check Package Manager first for installing programs. It is almost always the easyest way. If you can't find it there the next best thing is if you can find a .deb file...

Re: Slow boot on mint 11

Looks to me like it's having trouble mounting the file system. What to do about it I don't know . When I google the ( Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint) , there is a bunch of stuff about a kernel bug , and devices plugged in usb causing problems , and Corrupted HD etc... etc... etc... Do ...

Re: Dual boot XP/Lisa on seperate HD

I would guess you need to go into the computer Bios and make the Mint drive the Primary drive.
The grub "boot menu" probably got installed on the second drive and once you point the bios to boot
from that drive it should give you the dual boot choices.

8. Actually I kind of like gedit and it will open multiple files. Haven't heard about Notepad++ before, I'm checking it out now. Thanks for the info. 9. I have wondered the same thing myself. It's just the way Gnome's file manager works. (Nautilus) Maybe other file managers in XFCE or KDE etc. are d...
