Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

I for one would like to thank you for your efforts. I really like the Mate interface in Mint 12 ! One thing though , you said , "next step is continue researching the 100% cpu on themes." "objective: themes must consume 101% cpu" I hope you meant 1% ;-) Maybe that is what caused mine to lock up , be...

Re: Problem with MATE in LM 12 <solved?>

I guess I didn't explain very well. I meant to say , when you boot up and the first screen that comes up to put in your password is where you will click the button to pick which session to log on to. Once you already signed in it is too late to choose. ;-) From the log on screen , not the desktop. I...

Zeitgeist Datahub

Has anyone noticed this Zeitgeist Datahub in the startup programs ? From what I can find out about it , it seems a little like shades of Microsoft and/or Google. Tracking your every move "to better serve you" Am I just being too paranoid or is this a little invasive ? Actually I don't much want anyt...

Re: Problem with MATE in LM 12 <solved?>

Have not tried to log out and back in on another session but , when you first boot Mint 12 click on the button on the right side of the box beside the user name. and it will give options. They didn't make it very obvious how to log on to other sessions maybe they should update the artwork to give a ...

Re: Why can't I skip installing language packs anymore ?

Yes , I found that if you click the small arrow to the left of the progress bar the screen opens up and then there is a "skip" button. The problem is when I clicked it the process just froze and would not continue. I tried it 3 times and waited at least a half hour to see if it would go on... It nev...

Re: ARRGHH!! Why did you ruin mint?!?!

I have been checking out Lisa x64 in Virtual Box and personally I don't think they did ruin mint. I especially like Mate and it seems very familiar and usable for me. I really liked it a lot until... Well the CPU just topped out all 8 threads and it quit responding. I guess they still have some twea...

Why can't I skip installing language packs anymore ?

I wonder what is the purpose of the "Language Packs" If I install as English why do I need them ? Used to be I could skip that step in the install and it made zero difference to the installation. But now I don't have the option to Skip anymore... With my Super Slow Internet connection it take a VERY...

Re: ARRGHH!! Why did you ruin mint?!?!

Seems like everywhere I look most people are saying the same thing... http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=71448 But the Dev has no intention of making it better. He is doing just the opposite. He does not want people to be able to configure it "their way" because he knows the right way... ...

Re: No icons in Mintmenu on Squeeze

Much thanks Zerozero That works great. I wonder if Clem will ever make a "stable" version of Mint Debian ? One can always hope ;-) I don't care about the "latest and greatest" I just want stuff to work. Buy the way Squeeze says it is using only 126 MB memory to run. Sweet ! On this old machine it is...

No icons in Mintmenu on Squeeze

I wanted to try out Debian Squeeze but I missed having the Mint Menu... So I did my best to install it and it works fine, only it seems to be missing the icons. I wonder if anyone else has done this and already knew how to fix this little prob. ? The other menus have the icons but for some reason Mi...

Updating fresh install of Mint 7

I just installed Mint 7-x64 and found that the updates were no longer available. ___and I know___ "it isn't supported anymore" :-( But I like it and still want to use it anyway. ;-) Just in case anyone else is stubborn like me and still loves Gloria... I found a way to get all the updates that were ...

Re: How to disable touchpad *and* pointing stick when mouse

I know this is an old thread but I just found it and I wanted to give a big Thanks to Aging Technogeek for the "gpointing-device-settings" advice. It was bugging the heck out of me every time I typed anything I ended up brushing that dang touch pad and the cursor would jump around and make me mess u...

Mint 9 Gnome Updates

I was wondering if anyone else is having any issues with updates for Mint 9 ?
For the past few days I have been trying to update my kids laptop but I keep
getting errors.... Anyone know what's going on ? I even tried a fresh install
in virtual box and it is the same thing.

Re: RE: Seeking to avoid hardware problems

I have used Mint 7 since it came out and will most likely keep using it for years to come. As far as hardware I have installed it on many different platforms and never had any issues at all. Very stable OS. The only thing I can think of as potential problems is Mint / Ubuntu doesn't always play nice...

Re: Which version for 128 mb ram?

I am running Mint 6 Gnome on an old 733 Mhz 128 Ram Dell computer and it works pretty good once it finally boots up. Just use it for internet access. Trick is I installed it on a hard drive in a much better computer , then swapped the HD to the old dell. ;-) Oh and I made a 512 MB swap for "pretend"...
