Re: NO Sound Downloading youtube videos ?

What are you using to download the videos? Maybe the formats aren't being merged into a single file where necessary. It's happened to me recently, in my case due to insufficient disk space for the merge/conversion.

Re: Grub not coming .....

In the line GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden change the value from "hidden" to "menu". That should display the GRUB menu on boot without having to press anything.

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140

Acquired a WU late last night but unfortunately when submitting, the server didn't like the results and dumped it .. :| .. don't recall seeing this before. Let's see what happens with the current one.

Re: Corona virus (COVID-19)

I have only a passing familiarity with lamps that emit a spectrum known as far-UVC - these lamps can inactivate bacteria and viruses without damaging human skin or eyes. I do not know if or how these lamps are being used, or if it is an economical and practical solution. https://www.nature.com/arti...

Re: how can i write windows 10 iso image to USB ?

As an experiment I downloaded the latest Win10 Pro 64-bit ISO and this boots fine in a VM when attached to a virtual optical drive. Unfortunately the connection on my optical drive is playing up so will have to test physical media (DVD) later when I find the other cable which usually works; I'll let...

Re: how can i write windows 10 iso image to USB ?

Wouldn't the Mint USB writer do the job? As far as I know it's a regular .ISO .. the old Windows HDD I use for storage contains a Win10 image. If I forget to disconnect it and the machine is set to boot from USB first, it will boot into the Win10 installer.

While the WUs are still hit and miss, I haven't been able to get any user/team stats in weeks (the dreaded "Bad Gateway" error). Anyone else experiencing this?
I've been getting this. However this one hasn't let me down yet.

Been waiting since 09:27 today for a work unit. :(

Re: waterfox updates

I wouldn't bother with the KDE stuff as you are using Xfce. I am using KDE and have kwaterfoxhelper but not the others & it seems to work fine. Not sure what the issue is with Synaptic, though.

Re: Corona virus (COVID-19)

I have read all of this thread but don't recall seeing mention of using UV-C to sterilize rooms, vehicle interiors etc. (obviously NOT whilst occupied!). I'm still researching but apparently its effectiveness has been proven across a range of such pathogens, including out of direct line-of-sight pro...

Re: sudden partition death

Sorry I'm probably a bit late to the party.

First, if you haven't already, don't try installing anything on that partition as it will render data recovery impossible. Have you tried fsck? That might help e.g. from the Live session, sudo fsck -y /dev/sdc3 & sudo fsck -y /dev/sdc5.

Quarantine areas, yes... but near military enforced shutdowns? Exactly. I'm enjoying a few drinks now whilst it lasts (am at the second pub tonight, first was actually less quiet than is usual for a Tuesday evening), already stocked up on a few extra tinnies just in case and preparing to star...

Re: So which are the 'best' browsers for 2020 (according to you)?

I'm sticking with Waterfox for the foreseeable future. It has the sync capabilities I need and I can use my essential (for me) add-ons. I do have Firefox as a back-up but hate what Mozilla have done to the user interface. Ugly and unintuitive icons etc. aren't my cup of tea. I'm also, like some of y...

Looks like the virus has caused an increase in the amount of folders!
I'm certainly happy with that! Had an issue yesterday (I think) downloading a new work unit but left it sitting and it sorted itself after a while, IIRC.

When I was a kid, my Siamese cat demanded bedtime at 9pm SHARP. I had no choice in the matter. You can't ignore or argue with a Siamese. Definitely not ignore at least. My two are part Siamese and it really shows .. see my avatar .. when it's time to go to the Pub they both make their pro...

And right on-cue this bi-annual nonsense strikes again. Re: So what is the ¬ character for ?

I was a bit intrigued by this too. Now, on a similar note, I know what | is rather useful for in Linux but I fail to see what it might have been used for in Windows? I certainly never saw a use-case there. The same key, by the way, also has the \ on UK layouts (or at least most of them AFAIK). That'...
