Re: Prevent "rm -rf /"
Thanks for that, I haven't looked into BTRFS yet. BTW youtube-dl doesn't like the redirect link (it does download it though): [brian@BG-T440-MANJARO Downloads] $ youtube-dl -f 'bestvideo[height=720]+bestaudio[ext=m4a]/best[ext=mp4]/best' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H7e6BcI5Fo&feature=youtu....

That is a relief for sure. I was worried they might have been scared off! Thanks for the clarification.

Re: Weird Error When Starting Up, but Linux Mint Works Fine
Re. those ACPI errors, I get pretty much the same on one of my Toshiba machines (an NB250) and on that, the screen brightness control does not have any effect, which is why I asked about that. If this, and other ACPI-related features, work OK you can probably ignore those error messages but trying a...

Re: Prevent "rm -rf /"
There was an issue once here on the forum were one user told another to run that and somehow had included a space after the first slash before the rest of the path. A couple of us tried to post corrections and report the post to the mods, but it was too late. That's a very nasty surprise for the &q...

Re: Over 600 forum users read the following post, but nobody could be of help. Please try again and help!
If it were a case of Answer A fixes the issue, I'd still post that as others with the same issue might find the thread, but I'm not going to ask for more info to help diagnose an issue from someone that may never return. This is probably the best policy. I've fruitlessly asked the same on a few occ...

Re: Who hates MATE?
And don't forget: 3 thick, bold dots ... One of my pet hates with modern UI design too. For the unitiated, WHAT, exactly, is three dots supposed to mean ..? Nothing. Zilch. Nada. It is visually meaningless . I can not think of a valid reason to change from a "gear" or "spanner" ...

Re: Weird Error When Starting Up, but Linux Mint Works Fine
Kernel incompatibility issue possibly? Do the screen brightness controls work? It would be helpful if you'd provide the output of inxi -Fxxxz (copy and paste from Terminal, place between [code] & [/code] tags using the </> button at the top of the reply window as this makes the output easier for...

Re: All Desktop Screenshots of 2020
Wrong thread ..oops! I was a bit surprised at all these replies but did think it was the same one. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Maybe I'll quote his post here. Ask them to Post them again Unlikely, given he was last active here at the turn of the new year, sadly. Hope he's ...

Re: Rainbows. Rainbows? Rainbows!
I did find it amusing myself; sorry I didn't indicate that at any point!
BTW I have seen double rainbows on several occasions. Used to do a lot of hiking and hill-walking at one time.
.. Guess no-one's seen ckuster-rainbows however ..

Re: Prevent "rm -rf /"
I suppose you could add an alias to redirect it to something harmless even if used with sudo. Not absolutely sure if that would work so best to try in a test virtual machine first.

Where's Catweazel's post gone? Those screenshots were great! (the one with the astronaut on the Moon in particular).

If you add the

it'll still filter stuff (MAC addresses etc.) but without the extra verbosity e.g. inxi -Sz

Re: Opinions on Linux Distros i've tested.
I think I'm actually getting the feeling of users of rolling-release distros. There certainly seem to be a few of us on here! Great for having the latest & (hopefully) greatest, as long as you're happy with the regular rafts of updates .. and doing the occasional "fix" when something ...

Re: How to make the forum text bigger.
What I'd like to have is more granularity in the zoom settings (in FF/Waterfox), instead of 100, 110, 120, 133, 150 etc.. Reason is, some pages are either too narrow or (sometimes, infuriatingly, only slightly) too wide to fit the display, due to crappy web page design.

Re: How to make the forum text bigger.
In Firefox (and Waterfox along with probably most browsers):
CTRL
+ +
to enlarge, CTRL
+ -
to reduce, CTRL
+ 0
to reset the zoom level.
