Re: Manjaro Forums read-only at present .. is it just me?

Thought I'd better mention (belatedly) that they have set up a new Forum using the old URL. Old Forum accessible via http://archived.forum.manjaro.org/ :)

Re: New to the forum

A belated welcome! Great to be on the better path, isn't it? .. I've been Windows-free for about 4½ years now & never looked back.

Re: Hello everyone!

A belated Welcome! I've been a bit distracted this past week.

I'd personally have phrased the intro "eradicate stupid Windows from my laptop" .. you'll hopefully find it works better than when it was new with Linux.

A belated welcome from England .. I've been up to Scotland several times, most recently drove up to the western Highlands & also went over to Skye for a bit of "trail-blazing". Weather, views and beer all awesome. :D

A belated welcome from me too.

I'm likely in line for a Mac for testing purposes. It's one of the really locked-down ones & I'm determined to find a way to boot Linux on its internal drive!

Re: Hello from Virginia

Do you know of any Linux application for video conferencing? I've been using Skype for Linux for a while now. It does support multiple participants although you can only have one active call per account. Not sure if there's a limit on participants; likely down to available monitor real-estate &...

Re: Solved Lost windows 10/mint 19.3

Sorry didn't see a reply notification. Glad it's now OK; think reinstall was the best option in this case as it would have been a complicated process transferring the Mint install to a GPT disk & then converting it to use (U)EFI mode.

Re: Using OBS as a virtual camera

Webcamoid should do the job for you. You can send whatever output you want .. this SHOULD also work with Skype with the "share screen" option independently of Webcamoid. Don't now about Zoom as have never used it.

Re: I wish the Dictionaries that check spelling were half arse decent

I don't tend to rely too much on spell-checkers unless I'm a bit too tired to concentrate properly .. I tend to run myself into the ground trying to wear my brain out & get it to switch OFF & sleep! .. As far as typing goes, I took a typing class in 6th form (final year) & really ...

It's been almost precisely 6 months since I began my Linux experience! Here's where I'm at That was a pleasure to read! I think you have a better skill-set than you are giving yourself credit for. Are you doing stuff via ssh as well? Your grasp of the Terminal so far makes it ideally suited for you...

Re: LM 20 Cinnamon save workspace session

This is a feature which would encourage me to use Cinnamon again, as it's an essential funcion to me in KDE. Maybe the majority of Cinnamon users either don't know of it or just don't need it, but it would certainly be a useful addition. On the occasions I need to reboot, I can save the current &quo...

I see from your inxi report that it's running on battery. Does having it plugged in make any difference, i.e. avoiding some "powersave" mode?

I edited my above post whilst you were typing, to add "(at least mostly)" ;) .. but I do agree that this is how some FUD is started and sometimes propogated.

Re: Why not make Linux Mint be a 10 year project on all distro

What's actually happened here is that your lack of knowledge and experience has resulted in you making some very much unfounded and very much incorrect, knee-jerk assumptions about Linux Mint and the developers ... knowledge which has since been gained and (at least mostly) accounted for by the OP ...

Agreed! We already get comments about stuff being out-of-date with the current arrangement.

Re: New feature on LM20?

Interestingly enough I had the same issue with my Acer D255E. When I was running Mint 17.3 KDE on it I managed to bork a few of the config files and thereafter it never checked for it being disabled and the 64-bit VM option "magically" appeared. When I put Manjaro on it, I was back to squa...

Only problem is I cant install a 64bit linux VM on this laptop , only 32bit
Is this one of those machines with the hobbled BIOS (VT-x etc. "disabled by BIOS" and no access to the setting to enable it)?
