Re: My laptop is going to be happy for what I am doing!

Arch can definitely be set up as a much leaner system but with 2GB RAM it will still get swamped with even moderate browser usage, or GIMP or whatever. It's well worth increasing the available RAM if you can. :)

Re: fragmented desktop screen

It's worth re-posting the inxi report whilst the system appears to be working normally (i.e. after booting in "safe" mode, to see if that graphics driver is getting loaded.

Just needs i gigantic swapfile for my 2GB ram.
Unfortunately that won't help much (I did that with my netbook). Once swap usage gets beyond about 3GB your system will crawl along. I see there are a number of variants but it looks like it'll take 4GB? That would really help.

Re: Opinions on Linux Distros i've tested.

I'm not sure if those aliases are set by default in Arch itself as I've never used it. I've certainly never encountered them. Maybe they are present in pure Arch by default? .. I'll have a look next time I start one of the VMs.. Might be useful to add them to this once I've installed & configur...

Whatever the board software allows. I'm not sure what it does allow; this varies across sites I suppose, depending on what features the provider offers on their servers. I'm more familiar with VBulletin and have done my time as a Moderator on a popular Forum for several years so know some of the in...

Re: Opinions on Linux Distros i've tested.

How does pacman compare to apt? Pacman is a great utility but I'm afraid I still don't know the true meanings of all the options .. e.g. ""Syyu" .. what does the second "y" accomplish? ...I'm still trying to research the full descriptions of the options. [TL: DR] There is a...

I'm thinking of it being an opt-in feature along the lines of "Show a selection of recent threads from [select] long ago" maybe with a "rotate" option.

a mechanism in place to bring back to attention such threads automatically ... Ideas? This could be achieved if the user can set how far back the rotation range extends i.e. stuff from the past few days/weeks/whatever. Otherwise it will result in hiding newer posts; in itself creating a sort of &qu...

If you want a full featured DE, KDE is still top dog. Its configurability is unmatched. I wholeheartedly agree. I really love the configurability. Not sure if in Cinnamon you can set preferred dimensions & position etc. of not only main but also child windows, individually? Or Wobbly Windows? :...

The problem is often down to threads getting knocked off the first (few) page(s) before someone who knows the solution sees them. It's so easy to miss stuff even when frequently hitting the "Unread Posts" or whatever. Even moreso when what you post seems like a rather trivial observation i...

Re: Any apps needed in Linux?

A way to combine audio sources in software would be great .. so that, for example, one can mix system audio with the microphone input on video calls, without feeding the incoming signal back in & creating a loop. The latter can probably be avoided using separate sinks (which is the easy bit). It...

That's a useful resource, I didn't know what the values meant (never had an issue like this on my systems). Thanks for posting the link. Code: Select all

This could be the issue. I'm no networking guru but what is the output of this command?:

Code: Select all

cat /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
