Re: Mint won't boot after Live cd installation.

My recommendation is to review this tutorial:

viewtopic.php?f=42&t=163126

and make sure you understand how to install Mint on a UEFI system.

This looks legit

I'm sure if I connect to this network my data will be completely private. https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2086/32230258073_fa5dbb49d2_z.jpg (Yes, that is an available network near my home. And yes, it does come and go; it is not always present.) The link wants me to sign in with Google. Privacy much? ...

Re: Linux Mint 18.1 and Windows 8

Linux does not use drive letters as such. Linux uses partitions and mount points. http://tinyurl.com/jt3m5x9 Your first drive is listed as /dev/sda . The second would be /dev/sdb and so on. Partitions are shown as numbers following each drive. My first partition (in the attached graphic) is /dev/sda...

Re: Ralink RT2790 Wireless Card not working

Thanks for the quick response, JeremyB . I am a bit used to seeing power management on in iwconfig results for this module One of the first things I did was to turn off power management to see if that would help. It didn't but I left it off anyway. Now I see this: cat /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/defa...

Ralink RT2790 Wireless Card not working

I have a fresh install of Mint 18.1 Cinnamon (dual boot with Windows 10) on a desktop with an Ralink RT2790 Wireless 802.11n 1T/2R PCIe card. When I logon, the card recognizes all local network connections. I have it try to connect to my wireless network, it makes the attempt, then it fails. Clickin...

Re: Wrong Screen Resolution (maybe wrong Topic don't find it)

Let's start by getting a look at your system. Open a terminal and run the following command. If you type, the letter F is a capital. You can copy/paste if you like.

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
When you get the output, copy it and paste it back here between Code tags.

Awesome! It's good to know that these older MacBooks can still function past Apple's forced outdating of OSX.

Don't forget to add [Solved] to the title of your thread so everyone can know you've found a solution.

Re: If you have free access to turn an image PDF into OCRed PDF...

The problem may be that since these are images, no OCR is possible. It's not like turning a Word document into a PDF where there is text and you can eventually make it OCR capable. This document is similar to a PDF comprising 1,434 separate JPG files. You may be able to get some of the characters re...

If I had a dollar for every minute...

...it took Windows to update, I'd still be better off with Linux Mint. Well, I was finally able to get a new AMD APU to replace the one in my movie library desktop connected to my television. It is has been off-line for more than 6 months while I squirreled away money to buy the APU. It's an AMD A8-...

Re: how to test a failling netbook?

Hardware tests should be available in the BIOS. When you boot, there should be a choice to enter Setup by pressing F1 or F2 or Del or some other key. When you get into Setup, look for a diagnostics menu and see what is there. You should be able to test your RAM and your hard drive. Let us know what ...

Re: [Help Request] Power button is not functioning

You can try this.

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep acpid
You should get something similar to the following:

Code: Select all

ii acpid 1:2.0.26-1ubuntu2 amd64
You can either uninstall acpid first:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get uninstall acpid
or just install it.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install acpid

Re: All Desktop Screenshots for 2017

I like my desktop background to change as a slide show. I have many different photos. Some I've taken myself, some I've downloaded. It's difficult for me to stick with one background photo because I like the variety of having different backgrounds. Here's my latest slide show group. http://tinyurl.c...

Re: how to test a failling netbook?

Put Mint through it's paces. Make sure you use it thoroughly. Make sure Mint is up to date. That should have happened just after install. If not, run the Update Manager and make sure. If you want to install any applications, use the Software Manager. It's under Administration in the menu. Just searc...

Well, let's get Mint 17.3 installed first. After that, we can see how things go. Remember that you can always install things like Gparted after Mint is installed.

Introducing window$ 12, all ya need is 32gbs-ram, an octa-core processor and a 3tb hdd and you'll be able to web surf, watch YouTube videos and Facebook to your hearts content. For a year. Or less. Just wondering, what command did you use to display that information (I'm still rather new here)? Div...

You can also download any images you like and place them in a folder of your choice. Then add that folder to the list of choices.

Image

Just click the plus sign on the lower left and add the new folder. Then configure the wallpaper slide show.
