Re: Greatest movie(s) ever!

Maybe a call for Greatest movie(s) quote(s) thread is in order? "The Russians put our camera made by our German scientists and your film made by your German scientists into their satellite made by their German scientists and thus up it went, round and round, whizzing over the United States of Ameri...

Re: Greatest movie(s) ever!

You mean people like James Stewart (one of my all time greatest actors), Cary Grant, Rod Taylor, Gregory Peck? They were stiff in their way of walking, doing things, but somehow that gave the movies something extra. Love these old Hitchcock movies. Harvey, It's a Wonderful Life, The Man Who Knew To...

Re: Thank you to those supporting others here!

Though he has never helped me personally, I would like to recognize JeremyB . His networking knowledge and troubleshooting skill are second to none. I read every one of his posts and bookmark most of them because I want to learn. So many of the threads he posts on end with a thank you , a couldn't-h...

Re: A riddle

Question: What would be the odds for the contestant if Monty opened a door BEFORE the contestant made a choice? Ummm...uhhhh...wait a minute...I know this...it's uhhhh... Yeah. 50%. Again. The third door is just something to give the game some extra spice. The choice was always only going to be betw...

Re: A riddle

Monty after all opened a wrong door from among those original alternative two. MONTY opened the door. NOT THE CONTESTANT. The contestant KNEW, going into the game, that one of the doors would be opened to reveal the wrong choice and that he would then get A SECOND CHOICE TO KEEP THE ORIGINAL DOOR O...

Re: A riddle

The thing to remember is that YOU choose a door. THEN THE HOST CHOOSES A DOOR, NOT YOU! Then you choose again BETWEEN THE TWO DOORS REMAINING. There is NO WAY that choosing between two doors is a 66% chance. If THE HOST chooses door C, I now have the options between doors A and B. That is not 66%. T...

Re: A riddle

The initial odds are 1 in 3, or 33%. However , you know, that going into the game the host will ALWAYS show you one door that has a goat behind it. That is, you know beforehand that no matter what door you choose you will always get a second choice between the remaining two doors. So, the secondary ...

Re: Cannot connect to router via wifi but can browse the web

NEVER use wireless to Administer a Router or Wireless Access Point. I second this, wholeheartedly. Any inadvertent change can cause you to lose the connection to the router and you'll have to reconnect via wire anyway. And remember, if YOU lose your wireless connection, so does everyone else. It's ...

Re: Help: Installation on an iMac

You many need to boot into GRUB and run the NoModeSet parameter. Do a forum search for nomodeset and boot into the LiveUSB that way. I've never had to do that myself but here is a link to the Mint community with the correct parameters . See if that works. If so, then follow the instructions in the d...

Re: Help: Installation on an iMac

Are you dual booting Mint with OSX? If you dual boot, then you may not have done the dual boot process properly. Follow the instructions in this post . It's for Windows 10 and Linux but the main point is UEFI which is the same as OSX. Macs use UEFI instead of BIOS. If you don't dual boot and install...

Re: Are vertical panels useful?

Not only can the panel be vertical, you can also change the width (for vertical) or height (for horizontal). Try adjusting width/height of the panel to see if the icons appear and become more usable.

Re: Sorting files by Japanese Kana order in nemo?

There is Japanese language support, if that's what you need.

Menu > Preferences > Languages > Install/Remove (enter your password) > Add > Choose the language > Install

You will most likely have to install some language packs so make sure you are connected to the Internet.

Not that sure my laptop monitor is 16:10. How do I check it? Menu > Preferences > Display Here's mine. http://tinyurl.com/jsb2em7 You'll notice the resolution listed along with the aspect ratio. If the aspect ratio isn't shown, then go to the link in my original post and enter the screen width and ...
