Re: [SOLVED TEMPORARILY] ALL Add ons suddenly stopped working in Firefox 66.3

I was referring to Windows 10 - I should have mentioned that fact. I suppose Windows 7 is a victim of no support from Microsoft! Just the continuing saga of forcing Windows 10 onto everyone - directly or indirectly. My sole reason for using Mint is to get away from Microsoft. Difficult, as their jun...

Re: [SOLVED TEMPORARILY] ALL Add ons suddenly stopped working in Firefox 66.3

On Windows it fixed itself after about 24 hours. Not so on Mint - so I went to config:about and fixed it myself. Depend on nothing/no one to do anything right these days - all follow the Microsoft model (just jamb everything down the user's throats) - end rant.

WINE 4.0 - easy install

I have found WINE to be totally useless as it is available on 19.1. Hence, I did some digging and found this full set of instructions:
https://computingforgeeks.com/how-to-in ... x-mint-19/

Hope this can help some other users.

Re: SOLVED How to get rid of Brave

Looking into the far future, I see no time when I will be installing software not from the repository. This BRAVE browser failure is enough to cure me.

SOLVED How to get rid of Brave

Thank you very much - I should have come here and asked in the first place, instead of wasting a couple of hours floundering around on my own.
Thank You!!

SOLVED How to get rid of Brave

The message says, in part: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/brave-browser-dev.list:3 In order to properly do updates this must be removed. I can find it easily, and its other offending brothers - not a problem. Getting rid of them is the problem - there are several in that directory. I tried SUDO SU and got ...

SOLVED: Thunderbird locks up the computer after sending email

Installed 19.1 this morning as an update. Everything on browsing works fine. However, after sending an email using Thunderbird - the computer locks. Must be hard stopped (switched off using the power switch) to restart. Computer is useless without email, so I have reverted back to 19.0 until this ca...

SOLVED: Sound selections do not lock

Am using 19.1: Input and output sound selections do not lock. Every time I reboot, I have to go back and reselect my choices, else none of my sound stuff works. I never experienced this in earlier distros. I would merely make my selections and they held forever. Suggestions?

OK - thanks for the quick replies. I'll stay with 19 - I already have that working. No need to reinvent the wheel.

SOLVED Wine 19.1

I am currently running 19.0 Cinnamon and had the devil of a time installing and getting Wine to work properly. After much research I was able to do the impossible and all is well (thank you Ubuntu). My question: does 19.1 easily install Wine or does the problem continue?

Re: Linux Mint 19.1 codenamed ‘Tessa’

When assistance is requested, same should be offered if possible. What was offered to me was not assistance - it was lecturing. Much as you just did. My basic questions were never answered. Had I experienced same several years ago when starting out in Mint, I would merely have moved on. Although I u...

Re: Linux Mint 19.1 codenamed ‘Tessa’

That would be correct! I have since discovered how to work around many of the shortcomings of 19. By digging into places where the average user should never have to go, I was able to correct, among other problems, the faulty dual-boot Grub and missing libpng12-0 files. I have also successfully insta...

Re: Linux Mint 19.1 codenamed ‘Tessa’

Regarding 19.1:
Will Wine be returned to its useful inclusion as found in 18.3?
Will the changed icons be continued or will there be a welcome reversion to those formally used?
Will the nag screen/message regarding backups during updates continue?

Thank you.

Re: My whine about Wine and Mint 19

How about you trying it yourself rather than prodding the hornet's nest. Wine, as it is in LM19, does not work as it did in previous versions. Although I can tell it is there, it does NOTHING.
