Re: My whine about Wine and Mint 19

Obviously, you have neither installed it from the repository - nor used same - while in LM19.

Re: My whine about Wine and Mint 19

Begs the question: Why doesn't LM19 have Wine, as previous other versions did? Wine provides a necessary crutch for the occasional Windows program. Else, there is a real need for a Windows computer or dual boot. So again, why no Wine in LM19?

Re: My whine about Wine and Mint 19

Good luck with this issue. I have been down the same road a couple times - all for nothing. Wine works as expected in LM 18.3. It does not in LM19. It will serve only to exasperate you trying to explain that it DOES NOT WORK ON LM19! I went back to 18.3. Short of that, I can boot as Windows - which ...

Re: LM19 and Wine

I feel like the cable customer: something is wrong with YOUR TV/computer/etc. Have you tried this and this and this? Have you wasted sufficient of your time trying everything we told you to do and have you waited sufficiently on hold listening to our ads? Then perhaps there really is something wrong...

Re: LM19 and Wine

I was able to invoke the installation - after what appeared to be completing a rather incomplete prior installation. It started to behave as Wine would the first time it was used by finding and changing various bits. However, it only fixed one piece - then it tried to finish the installation and qui...

Re: LM19 and Wine

OK - it is on the list and is the default. I click on the exe file and NOTHING HAPPENS. I have been at Linux for several years and just have never had it fight so hard against me. All I can do for tonight - try more tomorrow. It is getting late (for me) on the east coast. Thanks for the help - you h...

Re: LM19 and Wine

It says Wine 3.0 is there. When I try to install my Windows program - as I always have in past versions of LM - I am not given the choice of Wine. That choice is not there. Hence, I cannot install the program.

That is why I continue to use LM 18.3.

Re: LM19 and Wine

I have installed Wine from the repository in older versions of LM. Each worked well for me and were easy to install. The specific program I require Wine for is called CQ100 and its associated JPG posting QSOTV program. I expected LM19 to operate in a similar manner to past versions of LM. I expected...

LM19 and Wine

I have need for Wine and a single Windows program that runs well under it. Hence, I am using LM18.3. I have a separate drive for LM19 experimenting, which I was using yesterday again. I did all the updates, etc. Then tried to install Wine again. I even tried jumping through a bunch of the "easy" ter...

Re: Timeshift vs Clonezilla

I do weekly drive clones - then all bases are covered. My cloning device is a StarTech and has no connection to any computer. Cloning of a 120gb SSD takes about 12 minutes. I do dual boot and suggest a full clone before the Windows side get any updates. Windows can really mess up your day.

Re: Going back to LM 18.3

If you think these problems are bad, try being a Windows 10 IT guy. Every update causes hours and hours of grief and it all varies from machine to machine. Seems no two ever react to updating the same. I do run 18.3 as 19 was a bag of small problems. In a few months that will all be fixed and I can ...

Re: [CLONING] How to clone an installation of Mint 19 to another PC

I clone entire disks using a StarTech stand alone box (from Amazon). ALL my system backups are made by cloning. No questionable software, no typing super secret commands - so easy.

Re: Going back to LM 18.3

Long story short: I personally do not feel that 19 is ready for everyday use - certainly not on any of my machines. Too many fixes that require extensive terminal usage and knowledge. Strange boot up problems with grub, failure of Wine to operate as in the past, missing files after updates - just to...

Re: I made a mistake with timeshift and i lose everything /home

I have easily removable SSDs in all my computers. Once a week I pull the drives and clone them using a Startech SATA Hard Drive HDD Duplicator. The clones are then used in the computer for the next week. This is a double check against a bad clone. Then the process is repeated the following week. All...

Mint 19 Cinnimon update failure

Just finished the barrage of updates listed. When I restarted - my DOCUMENTS folder was empty. Not a big deal to me, as I do daily backups (being the trusting soul that I am). Just a heads-up to those updating!

Re: Mint 19 install or migration from 18.3 prep - Timeshift not so good

I make my daily backups by system (does not depend upon TimeShift or any other complicated software and is totally failsafe: I back up the .mozilla and .thunderbird directories to a thumb drive (takes about 30 seconds) by copy and paste. I also back up the desktop the same way. Then I back up a dire...

19 dual boot fix

I am probably the only person in the universe to not know this, but it ended ALL the 19 frustration for me: If you cannot get the dual boot to recognize Windows as a choice when booting: Boot into 19 and go to the terminal and type: sudo update-grub press enter Fixed it for me. Hope others can benef...

I am running an i5 on an MSI MB with 8 G memory. The drive is an SSD. The whole package is about 6 months old. Nope - not an old computer here either.

Re: Unable to boot into Linux Mint 19 64-Bit With EasyBCD 2.3 (Dual Boot Setup Windows 10 )

I wasted hours yesterday trying to get 19 to install along side Windows 10 (same as I do with 18.3). Could not do it - 19 took over the drive and installed as the only OS. So I would go back, reclone the Windows drive, and try again with different settings - ETC!!! I have yet to even see what 19 loo...
