Re: Unable to boot into Linux Mint 19 64-Bit With EasyBCD 2.3 (Dual Boot Setup Windows 10 )

I wasted hours yesterday trying to get 19 to install along side Windows 10 (same as I do with 18.3). Could not do it - 19 took over the drive and installed as the only OS. So I would go back, reclone the Windows drive, and try again with different settings - ETC!!! I have yet to even see what 19 loo...

Re: Problem installing Linux Mint 19

Mint is supposed to make life easier for new users. Not with this distro. I just wasted another couple of hours trying to get it installed alongside Windows 10. Wound up having to reclone the Windows drive each time. Pity on the poor soul that does not have a complete backup to bounce back from. I c...

Re: Problem installing Linux Mint 19

You are not alone. I have wasted the day trying to get 19 installed alongside Windows 10. No Go! It will install and take out Windows along the way. Does not matter what I selected during the install. Fortunately, I clone my drives, so nothing is lost except time when the installs fail. At this poin...

Re: Scroll bars on 19 Tara

When you are in the forest looking for trees - you need all the help you can get. That is what BETA is - a plea for some help in finding errors and shortcomings. Well, at least it was when I was still programing. You have no idea how pleased I was when I would receive complaints of things I had miss...

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

Installed Wine 1.6 from the repository. No go - no recognition when attempting to use it. Without Wine, I am without a paddle. Pulling the drive and putting the 18.3 drive back in. Try again with any updates in few days. Again - all testing and use I am giving 19 is via the GUI - no terminal stuff. ...

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

Installed - runs as expected - with no difficulties. Cute new icons. No means found to easily change size of scroll bars.
I will give it a good run today, only using the GUI, and see what happens.

Scroll bars on 19 Tara

What? No scroll bar choices? I am so disappointed - I was hoping for something to easily widen the scroll bars. Something similar to the control for panel height.

Maybe this is not the place for this question? I have no idea.

Re: Making the Font larger in Cinnamon Menu

You can find the cinnamon.css file at: /usr/share/themes/Linux Mint/cinnamon I did an edit on it to change (increase) the size of the scroll bar. Be careful - you can most assuredly screw up the works making changes to this file. I did all my font changes from System Settings. You mileage may vary.

Re: Making the Font larger in Cinnamon Menu

Lower left corner (Mint icon) click, System Settings (looks like gears) click, Fonts click.

Enjoy - many many choices to be made.

Re: A forum section for OS issues is needed

I have Windows 10 on some computers and Linux Mint 18.3 on the others. I never have problems with the Mint machines, I cannot say the same regarding the Windows machines. They are constantly requiring attention to keep them running - all too often caused by the constant updating and system changes c...

Force mount of Windows drive in Linux:

sudo mount -o ro /dev/sda1 /media/name_of_Windows_drive

I have used this to save my bacon several times - always successful.

Re: Security notice: Meltdown and Spectre

WOW! Read this whole thing - not really sure why after I got all done with it. I just went to updates, checked what was there and installed what was needed. Took a few minutes while I went and got a cup of coffee. The end results? Everything on my dual booter works just fine and the world did not co...

How to change width of vertical scroll bar

Is there a method to increase the width of the vertical scroll bar to at least double of what it currently is? I am running Mint 18.3 Cinnamon.

Re: Linux alternatives to "Paint" in Windows

The thread got lost in all the chatter. Not having a simple - yet good features - drawing program is a drawback for Linux users. That is why I dual boot with Winners. Hence, I too would like to hear of a good, yet easy to use, drawing program.

Re: Adding Skype 8 to repositories?

I am running 4.3.0.37 works fine. Microsoft has no interest in assuring Skype functions for Linux users. We are too small a number to scare them.
That said, if you receive an offer of "update" when you are using Skype - DO NOT DO IT!!! Long story short, it took me a half hour to repair the damage.

Re: Firefox 57...Quantum

Coffee412
Popped in a work clone copy of what I am using and got the about:config to work properly. Why it would not work yesterday is beyond me, but it sure wasted a bunch of my time. Not that it is valuable, as I am retired.
Thanks for prodding me along on this.

Re: Firefox 57...Quantum

57 is having none of it. Tried that. When that failed, I decided there was no need for 57 here. When they update something to block the instant talking heads on the news sites, I will try it again. I think Mozilla is making a mistake by giving the users less choices.

Re: Firefox 57...Quantum

Did that - and the talking head on CNN came right thru anyway. Using FF56 and Flashstopper - this does not happen. That is why I reverted to 56.
