Re: Want to use SoundBlaster Live! 5.1

Here is something else going on when I just run the command to run pavucontrol that shows up in the terminal while running Radio Tray. ~ $ pavucontrol shm_open() failed: No such file or directory shm_open() failed: No such file or directory shm_open() failed: No such file or directory shm_open() fai...

Re: Want to use SoundBlaster Live! 5.1

Hi. I started up Radio Tray and it's currently playing just fine. However, in the Sound Preferences applet it's not registering as an application there at all, as the message there is "No application is currently playing or recording audio". I am getting *some* other applications sounds, such as Pid...

Re: Want to use SoundBlaster Live! 5.1

I did run pavucontrol as you requested, and the same thing happened as previous. I had been listening to the same internet radio station that I'd been listening to in Qmmp, then closed Qmmp and attempted to listen to that same station in Radio Tray. The radio worked fine, and was playing using the S...

Hi, This is the result of the command you asked me to run: ~ $ pacmd list-sinks 2 sink(s) available. index: 0 name: <alsa_output.pci-0000_01_00.1.hdmi-stereo> driver: <module-alsa-card.c> flags: HARDWARE DECIBEL_VOLUME LATENCY DYNAMIC_LATENCY state: SUSPENDED suspend cause: IDLE priority: 9050 volum...

The case of the disappearing default selections

Hi. I'm currently using Linux Mint Mate 18.3. So far, so good. Although I think I may have screwed up something in that I can no longer see anything to select in Menu/Control Center/Preferred Applications/Web Browser or Mail Reader. This may have something to do with at one time having five web brow...

Want to use SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Now Live! [Solved]

Hi. As stated in the title, I'd like to use this (still working great!) Soundblaster Live! 5.1 sound card as default sound in my computer. It mostly recognises it as default in most cases, but there are still some programs that try using the onboard sound. When this happens, the program (in this case...

I *finally* did find the settings to restore the terminal back to 'normal'. Thank you all for your suggestions. :)

Re: Return terminal to Defaults

Try a right click on the terminal window to generate a dropdown menu and place a tick into the box next to "Show Menubar". The other changes you want to make can be done via Preferences in the dropdown menu. I've already tried the 'easy' solution. This is a big reason why I'm posting here. The opti...

Yes! I did it!

I finally bit the bullet and installed Linux Mint Mate 18.3 on my ancient and decrepit computer.
And you know what?
IT WORKS GREAT!
Thanks to all of you that help to make a truly great product!
Cinnamon always seemed kind of slow, but with Mate, everything is just peachy!

Return terminal to Defaults [SOLVED]

A couple or three months ago (or maybe six or more) I installed Linux Mint 18.3 Xfce on a HP 2000 laptop. I also wanted to put a desktop clock on it at the time, and tty-clock seemed to fill the bill. However, it's a pain to configure it after every reboot, so I installed dclock instead. So why am I...

Just a shot in the dark here, but could you reverse the order of the files maybe?

Re: Upgrade Time

Thanks Joe, although your idea *sounds* like a good idea on the surface, I'm afraid I could possibly mess something up doing something that seems elaborate to me. This close to the deadline to upgrade I just get more and more nervous that I'll screw up something and then I won't have any computer. I...

Upgrade Time

Gee, time flies when you're having fun. Seems like only yesterday I installed Linux Mint 17.3 onto my computer and now it's already 2019! Argh! I have to upgrade again?!?! I'm not entirely surprised, as I've been preparing for this ever since I first installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.3, getting backu...

Re: Rocketboard Model 100 Keyboard

Wow! I never expected a post to this!
Anyway, all you have to do to set up keys (and you're using Linux Mint Cinnamon) is to go into Keyboard/Shortcuts and define keys as I did in the link photo. I couldn't assign any others unfortunately, but the ones I have mostly work fine.

Re: The curious case of the haunted second monitor

I'd say to check the box that says, "Mirror Displays" since it doesn't seem to be greyed out.I had to fiddle with the desktop to get it to work, even going so far as to use the Sony monitor as primary display.

Re: The curious case of the haunted second monitor

I'm sure that there are people here that can help with this. However, in order to do just that we need a tad bit more information. Could you please type into a terminal the command, "inxi -Fxz" without the quotations. copy it from the terminal and paste the results which would be your system special...

Re: Firejail beta-testers wanted!

For xed on LM 18.3, adding these lines shown in green to /etc/firejail/xed.profile works: https://github.com/netblue30/firejail/commit/b4e484e50f22894683c6974bc01e171dd2b19e3d Will this work on Mint Cinnamon 17.3? I'm sorry if it's obvious, I'm really afraid to screw up my computer with what looks ...
