getting ready to install 19 over 17.3...

...as soon as I get another flash drive, because my dog chewed the one with the 19.1 image on it. I have what my signature says: Thinkpad T410 i5 2.4 Ghz 4GB (actually 8GB now) Dual boot Mint Cinnamon 17.3 64-bit, Windows 7 kernel 3.13.0-37-generic x86_64 (64 bit) My disk looks like this: htt...

Re: lost all recent urls

I have my bookmarks backed up. I don't have my urlbar history backed up. And neither, apparently, does Firefox.

Re: lost all recent urls

My browsing History was also gone, and I never delete it. I'm not sure if that's where the urls for the address bar are stored too, or if the History is completely separate.

I'm not asking you to try this, but have you rebooted since it began? Or closed and reopened the browser?
Yup. Several times. I also ran a badblocks check on all of my partitions

I'm about out of ideas I'm afraid.

If you start typing the URL of something recently visited, does that autocomplete properly?
No. That's how I discovered it. It will only recall things from years ago, and urls I've visited since this partial amnesia happened a few days ago.

Do you have more than one user on the system? Could you have accidentally logged in as another (not used in years) user?

EDIT: Just realized the part about bookmarks. Maybe Firefox Sync?
I'm the only user...I don't Sync, I have nothing to Sync to...

lost all recent urls (NOT bookmarks)

One recent day I booted up and all of the urls the address bar on Firefox had been saving for several years were gone. In their place were old addresses that I haven't typed, used, seen in the address bar, or visited in at least several years. So literally EVERY site that I frequently visited was go...

Re: test test test notification

The only website that was set to allow notifications under Preferences>Security>Notifications> Settings was mintguide.org Well, then that might be the culprit. Note that that website is not affiliated with Linux Mint; it's a privately owned domain registered in Murmansk, Russia. I revoked their pri...

Re: test test test notification

Check your browser settings for websites for which you have allowed push notifications. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=282925&p=1561640 Well spotted. Indeed the most likely suspect. This is also a way to disable that garbage, by means of about:config : https://easylinuxtipsproje...

Re: test test test notification

I seem to be the only person on the internets that has encountered this piece of crap...I mean code. I only have 3 add-ons. I dont trust any add-ons because I'm not a security expert. I have adblock for youtube (a fairly recent addition, so perhaps the most likely) Popup Blocker Ultimate and Adblock...

[SOLVED] test test test notification

Twice in the last week I have seen a little gray box pop up in the upper right of my screen, something like the Mint notice I see if my battery was low. This box said "Test test test", only stays there a few seconds. This time I was able to click on it before it vanished and Firefox opened a tab wit...

Re: Live USB 19 resets my clock

Based on your posted timedatectl findings for both your LM installation and the "live" ISO, I don't find it odd at all that no time discrepancy arises between those two environments. But what happens when you switch between your Windows 7 and LM installations? I really think you've been misplacing ...

Re: Live USB 19 resets my clock

This is what I got running timedatectl from the Mint 19 USB. Oddly, the problem seems to have gone away. My clock was fine when I came back into 17.3 $ timedatectl Local time: Mon 2019-03-11 23:00:50 UTC Universal time: Mon 2019-03-11 23:00:50 UTC RTC time: Mon 2019-03-11 23:00:50 Time zone: Etc/UTC...

Re: USB version of Linux

I am looking to get a USB version of the latest Linux Mint. I am just growing too stupid (old) to deal with trying to fix my current Mint and Firefox. Can you point me in the right direction? I don't understand. You can't be much more older or more stupider than me. 1) download 19 iso to your hard ...

Re: Live USB 19 resets my clock

That does not appear (to me) to be the issue. Here is the result of that code $ timedatectl Local time: Mon 2019-03-11 09:08:17 MDT Universal time: Mon 2019-03-11 15:08:17 UTC Timezone: America/Denver (MDT, -0600) NTP enabled: no NTP synchronized: no RTC in local TZ: no DST active: yes Last DST chan...

Live USB 19 resets my clock

So live usb MINT 19 resets my clock by quite a few hours every time I use it. I have to change it back every time I reboot back to my HD and Mint 17.3 after using the live USB. Does this indicate a problem, or just a quirk? How the hell does it change my clock when changing the clock supposedly requ...

Most probably all the hardware should work.
Your USB drives, display, printer,wi fi, Ethernet are the things you can test.

That sounds too easy, but OK.

How to "test" OS before installation

So you make a live USB, and fire up Mint 19 to see how it works. You know right away if the screen is blank you have problems, or if it looks bad or if you can't get any sound or it sounds awful, or if you can't detect or connect to wifi. But other than these obvious things what (if any) specific "t...
