Re: unmount partitions that are in use?

The installer seemed to be referring to a USB stick but unless it's invisible there is only one partition on the stick I used to install. Weird. I just x'ed out of that "unmount" dialogue (didn't choose yes or no) and installation went along as planned. It did reuse that old swap partition. Everythi...

Re: unmount partitions that are in use?

Here's a link to the screenshot. I have no idea what a 2nd disk might be. I thought maybe it was my optical drive so I removed a disk and tried again with the same result. Now windows won't boot either but I'm sure that's just a grub issue. The HDD is partitioned the way I want it for the most part....

<SOLVED> unmount partitions that are in use?

I'm a bit over my head here. I'm on (or was) a dual boot with W7. I deleted my Mint 32 bit partition so I could shrink it and extend my storage partition before installing MInt 64 bit. Mission accomplished. I'm running the USB install now and it asks the title question: ---------- unmount partitions...

Re: how much space do I really need for Mint partition

Sounds like I can easily reduce my partition by at least half then, without any worries.

Re: The bar at the bottom of the screen sometimes disappears

No I haven't tried that. I'm going to be overwriting this install with 64 bit any day now, so its not that important. I will certainly try it if the problem appears in 64 bit though.

Re: The bar at the bottom of the screen sometimes disappears

So at least in your case we know now, that the problem is inside the account, not in the system. It would be interesting to learn the findings of the other users, that reported here. Question, where to search for the culprit inside the home. I admit, at the moment I don't have a plan. But it doesn'...

how much space do I really need for Mint partition

I currently have an 80 GB partition for Mint 32 bit. I screwed up by installing 32 bit and am going to install 64 bit over the old install. But before I do that I'm wondering how much space I really need on the Linux partition, since I store all my files on a 100GB partition of its own. I also have ...

Re: Why I'm sticking with Linux Mint

Puppy is the only other distro I've found functional, although I haven't tried Ubuntu lately. Definitely liking the latest Mint, I have hardly used Windows at all since installing it. That's because, unlike other ones I've tried, Mint works right out of the box. People don't run away from Windows ju...

Re: The bar at the bottom of the screen sometimes disappears

I installed Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 32 bit and upgraded it a week ago and am having the same problem. Having trouble finding what my graphics driver is or I'd post it. The panel disappears about 1/3 to 1/2 of the time after sleeping. It's set to show all the time.

Re: San Bernadino iPhone successfully cracked

While details are few, it appears that an unnamed third-party has successfully cracked the iPhone used by a San Bernadino shooter: The FBI has now successfully retrieved the data stored on the San Bernardino terrorist's iPhone and therefore no longer requires the assistance from Apple required by t...

Re: Top 50 Proprietary apps and their Open Source Alternativ

And to whoever said ArcGIS > QGIS earlier in this thread, all I can say is that maps created in the former will not load in QGIS properly, and there's little common ground between them. Sure QGIS is free but they're both woefully complicated pieces of software to use with learning curves from hell....

Re: F.lux (or alternative) for Linux Mint?

I use F.lux on Windows and love it/need it. I want to use it on Mint but I'm too green (pardon the pun) to understand and evaluate the possible risk. Care to help?
