Re: can I make live USB partition?

I splurged and spent the 15 bucks for a 64 GB flash drive. If I dont need the space today, I will one of these tomorrows.

can I make live USB partition?

I dont want to buy a new USB just to try Mint 19. If I try to make a live USB that has plenty of space for it, it tells me all data will be destroyed. Can I make a partition on the USB to solve this or will the partition be destroyed too?

Re: return to windows emotional support group

I like Mint being the underdog, and don't really want it to usurp the MS throne. With too much success will come all of the problems of success, or so I'm afraid. I don't care how popular it is, the only thing that matters to me is that Mint works. I ran badblocks on the partition that Windows seems...

Re: return to windows emotional support group

yes I think keeping Windows at arms length from my Linux machine is a great idea going forward. I don't believe for a second there's anything wrong with my disk that can't be cured by avoiding Windows.

Re: can't connect to WPA2 network

Solved the issue at the home network, it was a network issue not a Bad Medicine issue. I still haven't tried what I said I was going to try for the WPA2 a few posts up...since most of my school work needs to be done in Windows anyway I may not get to it soon

Re: return to windows emotional support group

Well it didn't take long, did it....I've only been using Windows regularly for 5 weeks. Today it decided there are problems on a shared (with Mint) partition, and started a checkdisk process that would have lasted at least a couple hours if I had let it continue. It threw up messages about numerous ...

Re: can't connect to WPA2 network

I'm unclear as to how your having a smart phone connection helps me...I don't have a smart phone, and will not be getting one, nor should I need one to prevent from having to reboot every time I suspend just so I can connect to my home wifi....so I'm just not sure what you're trying to tell me

Re: can't connect to WPA2 network

This is weird. Ever since I got into the WPA2 network on W7, I havent been able to get back on my new home wireless network after suspending, without rebooting. I've tried closing and reopening my browser but that doesnt do anything. If I turn off wifi switch and turn it back on it says wifi unavail...

Re: can't connect to WPA2 network

First do a clean upgrade to Mint 19.1 (with previous formatting of your Linux partitions). Your current 17.x will become unsupported in two months, so there's no use in tinkering with that anymore. Then take it from there. Still a problem? Post it here and we'll try to help. :) Ehhhh...not ready to...

can't connect to WPA2 network

i'm trying to connect to my university's secure WPA2 wifi network. They wont provide any support for Linux. I can connect to all of the other Univsersity wifi networks, and any non-university network. The problem could be that the login window never appears. It doesn't appear if I click on the WPA2 ...

"Let's say you have a folder called "mine", you can either with from the right-click > Properties > Permissions menu in the file manager remove all access for the group and others (only leave owner)," This would still leave access to any such "protected" folder if you leave your machine whilst logg...

Re: Sound settings won't open

The first suggestion doesn't work, that's what I've already tried. I have also looked in Menu- Sound and saw a half dozen programs I nevr use, but didn't realize Audio Pulse is what I was looking for. That's the ticket, thanks.

[SOLVED] Sound settings won't open

Sometimes when I click on "Sound Settings" from the speaker icon on the panel, nothing happens and I can't pump the volume up past whats available on the panel slider. It just doesn't appear.
