Re: Curious

I agree if one feels the need to criticise than IMO it can be done in a civilised manner. I also believe that any OS is going to have its flaws as none are perfect. When I was working on peoples Windows based computers most problems I saw were caused by an end-users lack of knowledge as to what was ...

Re: Curious

Because Windows sucks? I can't wait to see the schism start between Windows users and haters. In 3... 2... 1 Maybe if Microsoft wasn't a thief like Thomas Edison was, and didn't write sloppy code... this could be a different world. How is MS a thief when an end-user made the decision to eithe...

[Solved] Curious

Hey All, Why is it on most Linux forums I visit that when a poster uses or mentions Windows OS it is always if not most of the time intentionally misspelled as "windoze". Personally I have nothing against MS Windows I use it for MS Flight Simulator X . When I see it used used in this manner I have t...

Re: Number of Linux users is growing!

"Will not shut down".

You may not see it in Linux but it still exists.
I have this problem on one computer with Ubuntu Mate 16.04.
No matter what I try or do it will not do a proper shutdown.

Re: Number of Linux users is growing!

I think as people start to learn Linux is not what the rumor mills say it is. They are making the switch. I just loaded LM17.3 Cinnamon on my sister's computer, and she said " How come people don't know about this " she loves it, and has not had a lot of trouble switching from Win 10. I guess this ...

Re: Antix 15.1

I'm starting to look at some of the light weight distros as my PC needs are not much compared to what others do. I don't need most of the software that is on the mainstream distros and thought about going with the basic core and then installing what desktop I want and what I need as I need it. What ...

It Is funny how our tastes differ which keeps it interesting. I imagine in a half year that a lot of things could have changed. One thing I have noticed about light distros is the developers are changing them quite frequently.

Re: Antix 15.1

Hey everyone, I Have to say that this is a pretty neat little Linux distro right out of the box. I don't know how long ago you tried it Moem but I don't find it ugly. The desktop wallpaper is boring except for a couple of them. It is simple like Windows 98 as far as the menu windows and no eye candy...

Re: Antix 15.1

Off work and here is what I've done. This thing flies and have downloaded and installed the minimal software that is needed for my personal web surfing. Install could not have been easier and it was as though I had my own personal install assistant leading me by the hand through each and every step....

Re: Antix 15.1

If you're more of a regular user and don't want to do a lot of tweaking, I'd recommend MX-14.4 or 15, antix's slightly heavier brother. I've used it on an older PC, and it runs like a champ! They're both excellent, but MX requires less work to set up. Linux Lite is also a great contender. As well, ...

Re: Antix 15.1

Tried Linux Lite 2.8 and the browser creeps along slow slow and the same with Puppy (tahrpup6.0.5) and that's why I'm wanting to try Antix. Downloading a full 32 bit ISO now and then I'm going to install it and see what happens. It's a good old desktop for its day and the original owner kept it in e...

Re: Antix 15.1

This old 2004 computer has an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Barton processor / Nvidia Geforce FX5200 agp 8x geaphics card / 2.0GB DDR ram / 120 GB HDD.
Just couldn't see tossing it as it is in perfect shape.
It will be fun to see what it will do.

Re: Antix 15.1

Cool I think I will give it a try.
Iceweasel is the browser and I like it.
I just hate tossing old computers that have good hardware in them.
It might make a good web surfer.

Re: Antix 15.1

Just wondered if anyone has used it for any time and their thoughts.
I have an old 2004 desktop loaded with hardware goodies and in its day was a excellent computer.
Processor is an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Barton and it is SSE instruction so it isn't supported by much these days.

Re: 17.1 users not going to upgrade?

Ok in spite of what I said I went ahead and upgraded from 17.2 to 17.3 and so far see no big difference. Figure if I don't like it I can reinstall as no big deal there. Guess I was expecting some major changes though I am not impressed. The upgrade went very smooth and I encountered absolutely no pr...

Re: 17.1 users not going to upgrade?

Did a clean install LM 17.2 all works well so see no reason to change a good thing. What advantages would be gained from upgrading to LM 17.3. Not a lot of differences. If someone has a very new computer, the newer kernel and xorg might give better results. No reason for me then as I'm on a 10 year...
