Slow boot SOLVED

I changed splash to text in grub so I go see what was taking so long, I found that there is a a 1 minute 30 second delay in a search for a partition. I checked blkid and found the id of the partition does not exist. Is there a way to stop the boot process for search for the missing partition?

Re: Mint 18.3 boots to initramfs

tried following some of the links others provided but not sure if any action should be taken, e.g, could the errors be caused due to the video driver? should I enable the Intel proprietary driver?

Re: Mint 18.3 boots to initramfs

I tried blkid after booting Mint from a flash drive. The drive was listed as follows: mmcblk0p1. I tried fsck -y /dev/mmcblk0p1 instead of /dev/sda1 and it worked and after it was done with the repair I was able to graphically boot into Mint. I will check on the intel links provide and using a newer...

Re: Mint 18.3 boots to initramfs

I had tried fsck -y /dev/sda1 it reports it isn't found.. I tried rebooting into Mint choosing the last option, text based boot, it stopped with an error that there were unexpected inconsistancies. Stating I should run fsck with any options. tried that to no avail as well. I will try blkid just to b...

Well maybe you might be able to do a fsck fix. Just do this:

Code: Select all

fsck -y PARTITION
PARTITION = /dev/????
Regrettably fsck doesn't find the drive or the partition on it.

Mint 18.3 boots to initramfs

Two questions: 1) Is there a way to copy a Home folder to a USB flash drive when Mint only boots to a command prompt? 2) Is there any log I have access too when in BusyBox to understand why Mint install failed? Some background: My neighbor has a Lenovo Ideapad 120S. It came with WIN10 and 4 gig of r...

Re: Windows 10 alongside Mint 18.3

I created the built-in tool to create a recovery flash drive and additionally downloaded the WIN10 ISO from the Microsoft site.
Unless I misunderstand the recovery process I would first use the ISO to re-install WIN10 and then use the recovery flash drive to complete the process.

Re: Windows 10 alongside Mint 18.3

I booted a live Mint and checked the SSD with gparted. Found the clean install of Win10 consumed 26 gig of a the 32 gig ssd. I created an ISO of the WIN10 drive and then wiped it to install Mint 18.3. It's all working fine. If for any reason I have to re-install Win10 I can do it.

Windows 10 alongside Mint 18.3

I have a friends Lenovo 110 with WINDOWS 10 pre-installed.I have Mint running from a thumb drive. The installer option to have Mint co-exist with Win10 isn't available. I have always had that option in the past, is there a specific issue with Lenovo and WINDOWS10 that prevents that option?

Re: Cannot boot into GUI

I gave up when I didn't hear back from Mute Ant. I re-installed 18.3 and everything is fine. Wondering if I should mark this as solved even though in my opinion re-installing doesn't seem like solving a problem, rather it's just eliminating it. Thoughts?

Re: Cannot mount a floppy image

Maybe I confused things by adding the second line of code.
If I only enter sudo mkdir -p ./floppy shouldn't I see a new hidden directory "./floppy"
entering ls -a shows everything and I do a floppy but it isn't hidden. Isn't this a problem?

Re: Cannot boot into GUI

I booted mint 18.3 from a flash drive and ran gparted to check the desktop drive. It found no errors. Now however, I don't even get busybox and a command prompt. Now I get a flashing underscore at the top of the screen about a 1/5th of the way from the left side. I had backed up my home folder. So I...
