How to combine partitions

I currently have two partitions on my HDD, one has Mint 17.x and the other 18.2. I want to eliminate 17 and expand 18.2 to occupy the entire drive. I cannot seem to find a way with GParted. Can it be done?

Re: Long delay before Mint boot

@fablen85, finally got the laptop to boot again off the live USB of Mint 18.3, I did as you suggested using gparted and created a new partition table formatted for DOS. Re-installed MINT and it worked perfectly, boot times are great. Oddly it takes a while to shut down but I'm a happy camper. Thanks...

Re: Long delay before Mint boot

I am going to leave things as there are, at least the system works. I tried rebooting from a USB to re-install Mint, the laptop won't boot from the it. this was my original problem which corrected when I changed the bios to legacy. Since it's not booting from the USB thumb drive I give up and accept...

Re: Long delay before Mint boot

I changed the boot order in the bios, this seemed to help a bit. systemd-analyze critical-chain The time after the unit is active or started is printed after the "@" character. The time the unit takes to start is printed after the "+" character. graphical.target @3.664s └─multi-user.target @3.664s └...

Re: Long delay before Mint boot

No Fast Boot in BIOS. The screen remained blank when pushing ESC key during the 90 second delay period. Once the Mint logo appeared text briefly did display but Mint boots extremely fast from that point. Did not see anything in DMESG that identified a problem. It seems at this point that there isn't...

Long delay before Mint boot - SOLVED

Intalled mint18.3 on a new Lonovo low end laptop. Had to change bios to legacy boot and disable Intel security boot. Mint works well but there is a very long delay on power up before the mint boot starts around 90 seconds, then the normal Mint boot is fast. The laptop has a 32g eMMC drive. Any sugge...

Changing the bios setup to legacy boot and disabling Intel security curred the problem. Mint 18.3 is now operational.

Cannot boot from USB new Lenovo Idapad- SOLVED

Trying to install Mint 18.2 Cinnamon on a Lenovo Ideapad 120S-141AP, Model Name 81A5. It's brand new, it's weak in the hardware with a Celeron Processor, 2 gig of ram and a 32 GB eMMC drive. I'm able to access a boot option using f12 at start up, the eMMC drive and the USB are displayed but when I c...

Re: How to do updates using SSH for remote computers.

Thanks for both replies, was unaware the mintupdate tool could be used in the terminal. Wharfrat, adding your example was especially helpful. Checked help on the tool as you suggested and didn't understand this "-l LEVELS, --levels LEVELS ignore settings and restrict to this list of levels. Reviewin...

SOLVED- How to do updates using SSH for remote computers.

I have a small home network, I can easily go to each computer and do an update but I would like to increase my skills. My current update policy for all computers is " Just keep my Computer safe". Re: Update Manager not honor my Level Preferences

Each of those has the potential to cause problems with your system. I also do not see an easy way to revert in Mint if problems occur. Personally if I made the decision to install these (which I have not), First, I would do my normal Clonezilla backup of my complete system hard drive. Then and only...

Re: Update Manager not honor my Level Preferences

Hey bushyiii . Be aware 18.2 introduced a new level scheme than the one used previously. Read the Help file for details. Generally speaking, you want Level 4 updates now, especially security updates. They're mainly given a separate level so you can undo if one causes a problem. Postby bushyiii » We...

Update Manager not honor my Level Preferences

I just re-installed 18.2 cinnamon on a I7 desktop with 16g of ram. In "Update Manager Preferences" I chose to make visible 1. 2. &3 Impact levels.

Yet Level 4 updates continue to be displayed. Any explanation?
