Re: Installation only wants to use (main) sda for bootloaders?

Maybe disconnect /dev/sda (physically) before installing? I mean, I understand your complaint is aimed more toward teh people who program the installer, but as a workaround to the problem at hand, you could do that. Thanks for your suggestion, but No, it's also aimed at everyone, from the new users...

18.2: Yet another welcome release :)

That said, I would just like to add that whether a mint-x-aqau, or a mint-y-dark,..., is selected, then let it ALL be that decorative icon/theme, relating to Cinnamon, and Mate ... In other words, make the "Mint Start Menu" as well, be the same color, as the theme you chose, instead of Mint Green st...

... if I have ( ie. 3 separate internal drives), an sda, sdb, and an sdc, with an OS on half of sda, selecting "Alongside ..." will only try to grab sdc. And if I remove sdc, it will only try to grab sdb. And then if I also remove sdb, then and only then, does it install LM alongside the OS on sda....

Re: Installing LM 18.1 Alongside other OS's on same disk?

I believe you can facilitate doing so during installation via the "Something Else" option (at the bottom of the same list that provides the "Install Alongside" option). Joe Yes, I understand about "Something Else ...", but just sayin', if I have ( ie. 3 separate internal drives), an sda, sdb, and a...

Installation only wants to use (main) sda for bootloaders?

This seems to affect boith bios/mbr and uefi/gpt installs. (When selecting the "Install LM on an Entire Disk"): Scenario 1: (Bios/MBR with 2 disks): sda: sda1: ext4 LM18.1 sda2: ext4 Ubuntu sdb: sdb1: ext4 LM18.2 During installation even though I give LM18.2 the entire sdb disk, it still writes the ...

Installing LM 18.1 Alongside other OS's on same disk?

Scenario: (if you try to choose to install LM alongside other OS on same disk): If you have more than one internal disk, then LM 18.1 will not install alongside the main "sda" system disk. Instead, it will always grab the "last" internal had-drive in the chain, ie. sdb, or sdc,... ? Installing "alon...

Re: Gygabyte 970A-D3P rev 2.0 (Solved)

Finally figured out how this should be done. :D ... Note: what worked for me is as follow "amd_iommu=on iommu=soft" Closed You obviously did not READ the link and/or instructions I gave you, or you made a mistake here. Again, either use: " amd_iommu=on iommu=pt " <- (for IOMMU/SVM enabled in uefi/b...

Re: Why the /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu ?

The base of the main editions of Mint is Ubuntu. Why fiddle on something, that gives no advantage at all and bears the risk, that things might break? Yes, you have a point, and I have to remind myself, more often than not, that without Ubuntu, there was/is NO Mint, sad to say. On the other hand, Ci...

Why the /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu ?

Can Linuxmint not have it's own distro-related "/boot/efi/EFI/ Linuxmint " instead ? Or. Is it because: 1./ Ubuntu/Canonoical has paid verisign for the keys of the special *.efi boot files ? 2./ And/or is it too much work to change all that ? ...jus curious. Sure we can modifiy the way the UEFI boot...

Re: Greedy Win 10

Other util's like gparted have a higher chance of borking it. They could run roughshod over something win10 doesn't like and it'll fail to boot sometimes as a result. Also remember having to temporarily disable the pagefile, which is a lot like a swap file in gnu/nix(virtual memory). Could also hav...

Re: USB-flash-drive, (of LM), ALWAYS showing up as 4x it's size, WHY ?

The ISO9660 file system is reporting logical sectors of 2048 bytes and the USB controller is declaring physical sectors of 512 bytes. Whatever is calculating the 'size' is getting it wrong, multiplying (Number of physical sectors) and (Size of logical sectors). I am not really surprised, the 'isohy...

USB-flash-drive, (of LM), ALWAYS showing up as 4x it's size, WHY ?

so, I dd bs=4M if=linuxmint-18.1-blah-blah.iso of=/dev/sdx && sync anyway, it doesn't seem to matter what I use, because it still ends up a screwy looking usb-flash-drive that says it's 4x the size it isn't.? -huh ? in Win 10: 1./ Open a cmd prompt as Administrator and run powercfg /h off ...the above not only dsiables that horrid "Fast Startup", but it also disables hibernation, and deletes that useless and gigantic, "hiberfil.sys" file. -You don't need "hibernation" anyway -it's problematic. With the online install you would have received updates during installation. Just apply updates from Update Manager and you achieve the same end result. Thanks for these updates. Re: How to revert nvidia-375 back to nvidia-367?

Well, I've given up on Linuxmint 18.1 for a number of reasons now. One of which is this horrible Nvidia driver 375.*. implementation with Mint/Buntu 16.04.*. I've also tried the above ppa's, 378.*, as well as the beta 381.* all of them have failed, by either not loading, leaving me with an "empty" n...
