For a native Linux app you might try Etcher https://etcher.io/
It's an AppImage app. Nothing to install. Just download and execute.

Re: UEFI Boot ISO from disk - possible?

Thanks for those clues. They got me googling in the right spots. I did not have to install grml-rescueboot. Ultimately the solution was found using the grub command ls. At the grub boot menu I pressed c and entered the ls command. This showed me the boot disk as grub sees it. The solution was simple...

[Solved] UEFI Boot ISO from disk - possible?

I was able to do this just fine on my old BIOS system. My new system has UFEI boot. I dual boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint my daily driver. Both installed in UEFI mode. I have searched and googled but I cannot find a solution that works that allows me to boot an ISO directly from hard disk via the gru...

If you have a firewall enabled disable it and see if that makes a difference. That may give some clues.

Re: Adding Live disk ISO to Grub2 ?

I have done this using this guide: https://www.howtogeek.com/196933/how-to-boot-linux-iso-images-directly-from-your-hard-drive/ But only on legacy BIOS system. I have not been successful (yet) doing this on an UEFI BIOS system. Probably just from my lack of knowledge. But would be interested if anyo...

Re: TP Link Archer T9UH

I would use the Linux Mint Update Manager to install the newest 4.4 kernel, then use the Grub menu at boot to boot into the 4.4 kernel, then cd rtl8814AU make clean make sudo make install Reboot and use Grub menu to reboot into the 4.4 kernel NOTE: You should not have the USB device plugged in duri...

Re: [Fix]:Stuck at "grub>" gpt/efi Win10/LM18 dual-boot

You would have had the same issue with a MBR/BIOS boot. As previously mentioned, the last OS installed takes over the initial boot process. In your case it was Ubuntu. What you should have done before removing Ubuntu was boot into Mint Linux then issue these commands. sudo grub-install /dev/sda5 (Th...

Thanks for the tip @trytip.
I forgot about the IPv6 addresses.
Updated my script to add those for each mvp host entry.

Re: How to block block ads, banners, 3rd party cookies, page counters, web bugs and hijackers

I also monitor MVPHosts and update my /etc/hosts file when a new version is posted. As many of you I also have that process automated with a script. I would not depend solely on browser based blockers. Other things, especially email might try to reach out and touch a bad site. If /etc/nsswitch.conf ...

Question, could that partition just be format fat32 or anything, just to avoid the gparted error, for now? Or would that have some impact on the grub boot info?

Ah! Typos! Thanks for the info. I'll get those fixed. I'm working on the documentation this week, so I should get those fixed too.

Thank you! All of our customers are awesome!

Re: Need help to edit GRUB

I apologize. I think I was confused and got off track. So, your system works just fine. You merely are trying to customize the grub boot menu. So to get back on track, you are using "grub customizer" and get an error when you try to save the customized menu. Is that correct? If so, do your get that s...

Thanks altair4, I was just struggling with this very issue and gave up. Then discovered this excellent information. With this info I was able to accomplish almost exactly what I wanted. This may be off topic, but is there a way to accomplish this same behavior using autofs? What I am trying to accom...

Re: System 76 laptops and Mint?

I have a System76 desktop. No special drivers are required to run Mint 18.2 on it.
There is a System76 driver for their laptops. But I believe you can point Mint to their PPA and load it. I have done so with my desktop but it is pointless as their System76 driver is currently for laptops only.

Re: Need help to edit GRUB

I don't know what this requirement is for the special partition. I am running Mint 18.2 on several different brands and vintage computers and have never been required to add a special partition. Is this perhaps a requirement of this PC or its BIOS? Are you doing an EFI boot? As someone else in this ...

Re: Need help to edit GRUB

I still think the solution to your problem is: If we assume your installer requires sda5 just create a new small ext4 partition, say 3 or 4GB, using one of the unallocated blocks on sda shown in your gparted screen shot. Then place your ISO(s) there and then define 40_custom to look for the ISOs the...

OK, I'm confused.
Are you trying to solve a problem with your system booting PERIOD or just getting the grub menu to display and boot what you want?
