Re: Need help to edit GRUB

If we assume your installer requires sda5 just create a new small partition, say 3 or 4GB, using one of the unallocated blocks. Then place your ISO(s) there. Adjust 40_custom accordingly then run update-grub and test. This is what my system looks like: device fs_type label mount point --------------...

Re: New User- Linux Mint Cinnamon Setup Partitions?

Only a suggestion. We will assume: 1) /dev/sda - 500 GB drive 2) /dev/sdb = 1TB drive Create 3 partitions on /dev/sda 1) 32 GB for Linux Mint mounted at / 2) 4 GB for swap 3) remaining disk for /home, all partitions are type ext4 except swap, which is swap Create 1 partition on /dev/sdb After the sy...

Re: My experience with System76 Wild Dog Pro and Linux Mint 18.2

The old Dell was not that bad as far as being responsive. It runs Linux Mint very well. The new System76 beats the old Dell to the login screen only by 2 seconds. Overall the new system "feels" slightly quicker. Its noticeable but not impressively so. I have not had time to test things like video re...

My experience with System76 Wild Dog Pro and Linux Mint 18.2

I would highly recommend System76 to anyone looking to purchase a system to run Linux without all the extra baggage and cost of a Windows system that also runs Linux. System76 systems only come with Ubuntu. My mistake was ordering with Ubuntu 17.04 instead of 16.04. (Why, explained later?) My old sy...

Re: Scanner problems with Canon PIXMA MG4250

What version of libsane are you using? I also had problems with my Canon PIXMA MX922 scanner not being recognized over the LAN. There is a bug in an earlier version if libsane, I forget if it is version .25 or .26. But upgrading libsane resolved my issue. To check out a newer version see: https://la...

Re: Setting up raid0 on linux mint 18.1

Below is the procedure I use. It's not my work, but what I have learned from google and forums. Install mdadm sudo apt install mdadm Partitioning Hard Drives (assumes they are empty, use wipefs if not) drives (alias drives='sudo lsblk -o model, name, size, fstype, label, uuid, mountpoint') fdisk /dev/sdb ...

Re: How do I determine what RAM to buy?

I just go to http://www.crucial.com/ (Micron memory)
For me their memory configurator has always been excellent.
Enter the vendor and model number of your PC/Laptop and it will tell
you all about your system and what type of memory it has as well as the maximum
amount of memory supported by your PC

Re: Help with ssh to multiple computers

In general, you want to place the public keys from the Laptop (those files in the .ssh directory of your home directory that end in .pub) into the authorized_keys file in the .ssh directory in the home directory of desktop #1 and #2. If all three of these are in a private LAN you could copy the publ...

Re: cannot transfer files from remote linux server

You have implied that this was working in the past, but have you configured
ssh and scp to run on a non-standard port? If not, then you do not
need the -P port (port number ssh or scp is listening on) parameter.

I think the easiest thing, if possible, is to just switch the monitor connections to your video card.
If I am understanding correctly.
