Re: Nvidia Drivers Crashing Cinnamon

I have not had good luck with any Nvidia drivers past 358 (Mint 18 x64 with GTX 760). I started a thread a while back where I thought WINE was causing periodic hangups (it would spontaneously reboot after a minute or so after it hung), but it eventually happened a few times out of WINE too, so I kne...

Re: Is there a way to reduce line spacing in Nemo (or everywhere)? [Solved]

I figured it out. It was a bit strange, as the spacing was tighter in Mint 17.3 than in 18 while using the same theme (Mint-X-Blue), even when I copied the entire theme over from the older version to the newer as a test. In 17.3, all of the Mint-X themes had the same line spacing as Adwaita (and I t...

Re: [SOLVED] Mouse is too fast

To solve the thing about it forgetting the settings if the mouse is unplugged and plugged back in: Install the package inputplug via your favorite method (I used Synaptics). It's in the Mint repo. It sets up a simple daemon to execute a command when devices are added or removed. Create a file with w...

Re: Laptop hangs with proprietary Nvidia driver after boot & with Nouveau under load

Disabling Power Mizer has made the Nvidia driver work with Mint, but it's a workaround, not a fix. The underlying bug is still in Xorg. I'd like to be able to enable power saving (it is a laptop), but as I understand, the Nouveau driver doesn't have power saving either, so it's not a loss in that way.

Re: What is this magnifier popup thing I get when highlighting text with a laptop touchpad?

Well, I never did figure out what that little bugger was. I booted a Mint 18 Live DVD and it wasn't there, so it appears it was something I installed or changed post-install... what, though? No idea. I restored a backup from about a week prior, but the thing was still there. I then went back to my p...

Re: What is this magnifier popup thing I get when highlighting text with a laptop touchpad?

Yes, it did it when I created a brand new user account.

It did not show in the regular screenshot I got from PrintScreen, so I had to take a picture of the screen with my camera:

Thanks!

What is this magnifier popup thing I get when highlighting text with a laptop touchpad?

Mint 18 x64 Cinnamon here: When I highlight text with my laptop's touchpad in several programs (xed, Synaptic Package Panager, Nemo, etc.), a little red box with a magnified view of what I am doing appears. If I plug a mouse into the laptop, highlighting is normal; no popup magnifying anything. What...

Re: Laptop hangs with proprietary Nvidia driver after boot & with Nouveau under load

Ok... so the problem is not in the Nvidia driver itself. I've read of the same issue happening with Intel graphics, and it just happened to me once again with the Nouveau driver in Mint 18 x64 Cinnamon. With the proprietary driver, it happens every time immediately after boot; I've tried several Min...

Re: X session crashes with EQ overflowing

Having the same issue on my laptop. I just started a thread about the issue at viewtopic.php?f=59&t=226853&p=1198437#p1198437; that was before I learned where the logs were and where to look for some clues. It's this same issue... did you ever get it resolved?

Re: Laptop hangs with proprietary Nvidia driver, but not Nouveau

Ok... I have read through the logs, and in the xorg log, it's telling me that I am getting EQ overflow. When I searched that, I find all kinds of references to issues similar to mine, though not many have it happen every single time they boot, less than a minute later. It's marked as fixed in a bunc...

Re: Screen tearing on Linux Mint 18

Doesn't seem to have completely gotten rid of it, but mostly. Very strange. Either way I hope this behavior gets reverted in the future as no tearing in any app is a killer feature of Mint in my opinion! :D I did have some tearing in Cinnamon in programs other than Firefox with the proprietary Nvid...

Re: Laptop hangs with proprietary Nvidia driver, but not Nouveau

Ok... I read that Cinnamon has some issues with older Nvidia drivers, so I installed Mint 18 MATE on a small partition I made for the test (since it is not possible to try the proprietary driver during the live DVD test, as far as I know). I installed the recommended 340 driver from the official rep...

Laptop hangs with proprietary Nvidia driver after boot & with Nouveau under load

Hi everyone, I just edited this message's title to reflect the discovery that the issue happens with the Nouveau driver too-- it just happens under different circumstances. I had previously written that it happens only with the proprietary driver. I will post a new message with the new info below (#...

Re: Number of Linux users is growing!

So it's the first day of August, and the push to get people into Windows 10 for the free upgrade has come to an end. The computing world collectively takes a cautious breath... So last month, Windows 10 grew 10% while Linux grew at 13%. This month, Windows 10 grew again by 10%, while Linux grew at 1...

Re: WINE locks up Mint 18 Cinnamon periodically; 17.3 was fine (Solved)

Finally got the crashing taken care of. Well, mostly. Enough to where it is no longer a concern, so I have marked it as solved. It turns out that rolling back to the 361 Nvidia driver brought it to the level that brought it to "A slight less bit of a win." I can use WINE for hours on end now with no...

Re: world of warcraft legion

Glad you got it working! You can use OpenGL in WoW too, and it is considerably faster than D3D9 in WINE, as you might expect. Unfortunately, WoW's implementation of OpenGL 3.0 is buggy, and it intermittently renders with considerable artifacts, whether in WINE or in Windows. This was not an issue in...

Re: WINE locks up Mint 18 Cinnamon periodically; 17.3 was fine

More info: The root cause of the crash appears to be in the game itself (WoW Legion Beta). I played a bit in Windows 7 today, and it crashed once again-- the initial stages of the malfunction look exactly as they do in WINE. The game terminates with a WoW error reporting window indicating it is rela...

Re: world of warcraft legion

There was a change in the Legion beta WoW executable having to do with stricter adherence to security standards that broke it in versions of WINE older than 1.9.something. I had it too, the stuck on Connecting... issue, but when I removed the version of WINE I had and replaced it with the latest fro...
