Re: Is there a way to reduce line spacing in Nemo (or everywhere)?

I don't mind editing the theme to do it-- but I have not as yet been able to figure out where the code for that within the theme would be. Any hints would be much appreciated, if anyone knows!

Is there a way to reduce line spacing in Nemo (or everywhere)? [Solved]

When I look at a list of files in Nemo (in what it calls list mode; it's details mode to me), there is a considerable amount of space between lines. I'd like to reduce this and tighten it up vertically, so that more files can be listed at once in a window of a given size. Is there a way to do this? ...

"3.NO WAY TO MODIFY THE DEFAULT WHITE BACKGROUND TO ANYTHING LESS EYE HURTING. That the old problem and my biggest disappointment... Again, no obvious way to modify the offensive to the eyes white background in the file browser or a text editor. I have been under impression that in new version of Mi...

Re: Screen tearing on Linux Mint 18

Is it just in Firefox by any chance? I had generalized tearing with my Nvidia using the prop drivers too, but the usual tricks (like in this thread so far) took care of that, except in FF... at first I assumed I was still getting system-wide tearing, but it was FF itself. The solution to that is in ...

WINE locks up Mint 18 Cinnamon periodically; 17.3 was fine (Solved)

Ever since I installed kernel 4.4.0 in LM 17.3 x64 Cinnamon, I have had periodic lockups in WINE when gaming... maybe it will happen once in 5 hours of play. First the game freezes, but the mouse pointer still works; then the pointer freezes after about 30 seconds more; then after another 30 sec or ...

Re: Why is GPU acceleration disabled in Linux Firefox?

Just setting those two prefs wasn't enough to get it to work for me. I also had to start Firefox with this (in a link): env MOZ_USE_OMTC=1 firefox There are other means of setting the enviroment variable, but this one is quick and easy. This has been the only way to get FF to stop tearing in Linux. ...

Re: Can Nemo make symlinks?

Simply drag the file from the source to the place you want the link as normal, and before releasing the mouse button, press Shift+Control, then release the mouse button.

Re: Firefox search bar and context menus in wrong place on 17.3

Yes, I see this bug also. I've been experiencing a similar issue that probably has the alleged GTK3+ bug at its root, although the issue I have been seeing only happens with the Classic Theme Restorer addon and the standard Firefox theme. I tried the thing with typing in the URL bar, moving the FF w...

Re: Number of Linux users is growing!

It's the first day of July, so the new statistics are out on netmarketshare.com. I'm happy to report that Linux experienced more growth in the past month (percentage wise) than Windows 10, at~13% and ~10% respectively. Now, of course, Linux's market share is still tiny, but at 2%, it has finally got...

Re: One more reason to avoid Windows 10

Microsoft is not the mean megalith of the PC world that it once was - the company is on the defensive, constantly playing catchup to innovation from Apple, Android, and yes, even Linux. It seems pretty mean to me, given all they've done to make Windows 10 into... well, into what it is, and the way ...

Re: One month with Linux Mint Cinnamon

The big change in win10 is the revocation of end user rights and control over their local system. With win10 MS has massively increased their rights to intervene on a users machine and they have reserved for themselves the right to an unprecedented amount of snooping and tracking of the user. The E...

Re: Just Another Newbie

Doing "college stuff" is where I got my first experience with *nix. I was studying computer science, and the university had multiple kinds of Unix workstations, including SGI Iris and Sun SPARCstations running OpenWindows. It was quite a change from the VAX/VMS I had started with. All of the other s...

Re: Just Another Newbie

Welcome aboard, im_ryan! I see people post that they have had it with Win10 just about every day. I have not been here long enough to know one way or another, but I understand that there has been quite the flood of new users to forums like this one from MS-land. Before I set up my PC as a dual boot...

Corsair M95 and K70 (mouse and keyboard) both work fine in Mint Cinnamon 17.3. Can't say about the extra buttons on the mouse, though, as I haven't tried to do anything with them yet.

Yet another one of them!

Hello everyone, The passphrase is "Satya sent me." This is my third attempt at writing this. It keeps turning into another angry rant at Microsoft (my hobby lately). I'm a long-time Windows user (since 1990 with 3.0), and I've generally been happy with it, particularly since XP. I still think XP and...

Re: Dear Bill Gates

I am new here, and I was logging in here to post my intro when I saw this, and I had to comment. IMHO, where necessary! I don't think that Microsoft made a mistake when it comes to their backward compatibility. They've had 21 years or so of undisputed dominance of the desktop market, and it was duri...
