Re: In Nemo the suboption 'compress' does not exist anymore?

It was not removed, at least I still have it.

Try to open Modules from Nemo. You will find it under Edit or just press Alt + P. You have to enable Nemo Fileroller.

Re: what do we do with an app image after downloading it.

Then there is flatpack... Flatpak is integrated into Mint's software manager. You can view if the program is from the repos or a flatpak. Of course you can also use flatpak from the command line. If you install a flatpak application it will be added automatically to the menu and you just have to cl...

Generally I use my laptops until they die but have backups of all my important data. My machines are durable business notebooks and even bought used.

Re: Synaptic Status "Installed (local or obsolete)"

I have no idea about the original post from 2012 but you should not worry about the obsolete files and if you are unsure you should probably not remove them. I personally remove them after an upgrade to a new base release and normally it should not be a problem because those packages are no longer i...

Re: Experience with Ulyana: upgrade, DON'T clean install

In short, those hidden files in your /home directory ARE your notes about all of your preferred configurations and customizations. It just makes yourself lots of unneeded work, to no benefit, to not use them. That is exactly how I see it. OP's title is indeed too drastic but I have personally no pr...

Re: Problems upgrading from Mint 19 Cinnamon to Mint 20

Personally I do not think that your specs are so great for running Cinnamon but still it should not boot that long I think even though you have a conventional and slow hard disk and only 3 GB of RAM.
So if it is a fresh install you probably should open a new thread for that specific issue.

Re: Opinions on Linux Distros i've tested.

Anyone try or use Slackware? Yes, I tried it and also one derivative, Salix. Slackware is great and stable like Debian but the installation process..., even Arch is easier to install. :) The package manager does not resolve dependencies either. But as I said, once configured it is just like any oth...

Re: How to make the forum text bigger.

I think you can even set specific settings for fonts in either Chrome or Firefox, e.g. to have them bigger or smaller. Might also be useful in your case.

For the key errors I would try to open the software sources and go to maintenance and then add the missing keys.

Maybe the USB stick is corrupted. It is only a live session. You could try to make another one and verify the check sums.

Re: Black screen ""Unable to launch “cinnamon-session-cinnamon” X session --- “cinnamon-session-cinnamon” "

If you upgraded to version 20 than you should have 'ulyana' and 'focal fossa' in your sources list but that is not the case. Something went clearly wrong. Before I would proceed I would make a backup of all your important data and then try to use Timeshift. Did you set it up by any chance when you i...

Vale, ahora entiendo mejor. ¿Qué pasa si quitas los auriculares del jack y vuelves a conectarlos? Muy raramente algo así me pasaba con mis cascos.
