Re: Vivaldi browser disappears

I assume you just run Mint as a live session therefor the install is not persistent. If you were to install Mint on the disk that would not happen obviously. Personally I have no experience with persistent USB installs but that is what you should do if you want to see your changes to the OS after a ...

It could also be that you backed-up also your personal files with Timeshift and those can take a lot of space.

I happen to be extremely lazy, so for me, Mint rules. After 14 years of full-time use of desktop Linux, I simply want everything to work reliably, with the least amount of effort. I haven't found the same optimum of ease and r...

Try to install pavucontrol and open the app and have a look. It is more advanced and allows to choose different sound output and input.

Re: Was Ulyana released before it was ready?

Usually, ubuntu does not allow their LTS users to upgrade to the next LTS release until .1 point release is out. That's usually 4 months after the April release. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FocalFossa/ReleaseSchedule That should give you an indication of what they think of their own stability! I am not...

It's supposed to be another Arch based distro, but easier to work with than Arch.

It is Arch but with a nice and easy installer, if one can say so. I did not try it but I tried its predecessor Antergos. It was a good experience but I am not in the Arch camp.

Re: Ongoing Issue Mint 20 cinnamon new Install system non restart after suspend

Maybe it won't help but you could try Mint 20 with something else than Cinnamon. I know Cinnamon is a lot nicer. But that way we could see if the desktop environment is the issue. Cinnamon needs 3D acceleration whereas the other two do not.

Re: Can I upgrade mint cinnamon 19.3 to 20 without disabling PPAs & 3rd party repos?

Question: 1. So there is no way that one can keep all the PPAs and 3rd party repos? 2.One has to add the PPAs manually one by one again? You can of course follow the instructions of the gentlemen above and make a new install but if you want to upgrade in-place like you already did then yes, you hav...

I already said it somewhere else, I upgraded from 19.3 to 20, success. :) It took a while but it was not complaining about any errors.

Re: Ongoing Issue Mint 20 cinnamon new Install system non restart after suspend

That could be very well sometimes the problem, following random commands on the internet.

I see you have one of those newer Ryzen models I have no experience with. Not sure if it could be related to that. I think I have to pass, sorry.

Did you try to install additional drivers?

Re: Another "Broken Dependancies" problem

You have that as the first line in your list: deb http://packages.linuxmint.com tricia main upstream import backport #id:linuxmint_main Remove the last line: #id:linuxmint_main . To me that looks strange. You will need to edit that line as root and then save it. Edit: I use vim but for other users i...

Re: Can I unistall firefox esr?

Technically you can remove it but as said it is not recommended.

Another option to install the regular version of Firefox is using the flatpak version. When you open the software center it should offer you both versions of Firefox and you can choose the Flathub version.

Never knew those were of higher quality.
Usually they just work out of the box, except the finger print readers. At my home we only have old corporate Dells and Thinkpads.
Keep in my mind those devices back then were expensive and are of better quality than today's consumer products.

It is not installed. I just wondered why you tried to use a dconf option in your original post.

What are your actual settings for power management and also post your hardware info.

Re: Upgrade Xubuntu or migrate to Mint

It depends if what you have installed on your son's laptop is Mint with the Cinnamon desktop.
Cinnamon needs more resources to run so you have to check your hardware. Other than that you are good to go with Linux Mint 20 and I recommend to try it definitely.

What did you do prior to the update? It seems strange to me to have such problems just regularly updating the system. Are you sure you were not upgrading it to another release?

Let's see how your sources list looks like:

Exactly and he should probably enable snapshots with Timeshift just in case and the now obsolete levels are unnecessary.
