Re: Upgrading from Mint (Cinnamon) 19.3 to 20: Worth it?

With the amount of time required in prep work, timeshift, the simulation, downloads, and the upgrade itself, and probably/possible reverting back to a previous snapshot anyway... That is true but setting everything up like it was takes the same amount of time, at least for me and I am convinced tha...

Re: Upgrading from Mint (Cinnamon) 19.3 to 20: Worth it?

Error messages are always helpful but backups are a must. I never perform an upgrade without a backup solution.

Re: "Remove conflicting indicators" system report

That package is not installed on my system so I would say remove it. Though I already use Linux Mint 20 but anyway if something does not work you can always install it again.

Re: How to pevent Dropbox from auto-starting?

I do not use Dropbox but I know there was an option to enable/disable autostart when I used it ten years ago. Sorry that I cannot help.
Maybe try to remove it from the startup applications.

Re: CPU usage affecting ZOOM meeting

Zoom and similar programs like Skype are known to use excessive CPU 'by default' especially with video. I would also try to minimize other programs opened at the same time and see how it goes.

Re: Upgrading from Mint (Cinnamon) 19.3 to 20: Worth it?

Not for me. That is unfortunate and I know it did not work for everybody. It would be interesting to know why because it seems to depend on many factors. I usually have no problems with upgrades but I also do version upgrades in Debian without problems doing everything manually and here I just 'bli...

Re: RadioTray gone after upgrade LM 20

It was removed by Ubuntu's upstream, that is Debian. It is no longer in Unstable, that is the reason like so many other packages that depend on Python 2.

Did you try to see what settings are enabled in the Dropbox program itself? I would try to disable it there first.

Dann schau ...

Re: Installing unsupported old versions of Mint

I would rather install a supported version of any distribution on your hardware. If we know exactly the specs we can recommend something. 2002 sounds pretty old but who knows. Maybe even Debian proper could run on it. It still supports 32 bit.

Re: Opinions on Linux Distros i've tested.

I tried almost all of the major distros and all have their pros and cons but underneath it is just Linux with another set of packages or a different package manager.

Re: What backup and recovery strategy do you use? I'm curious.

I use Timeshift for the system and luckily I did not have to use it to recover yet.
For all other files in /home like music, videos and documents also some hidden config files, I have them copied over to an external HDD on a regular basis.

Yes, I am an experienced user you might say but I just followed the instructions, nothing I added from my part except making the usual snapshots and backups. I was MIA because of real life but Mint is running constantly here and I am always upgrad...

I run the beta, no issues at all. Just install it if you feel like. Really. It will be released shortly anyway.

Ubuntu is also already released. The package base is the same, except maybe Cinnamon.
