Re: External VGA Monitor?

FYI - I tried Mint Cinnamon on a dif cpu-HDMI-same TV and 2nd monitor worked. I am guessing it has something to do with the Dell XPS graphics AND Mint Cinnamon. Any other ideas? :?: Just one last one, and it's a punt, Go into your firmware and check settings for the video card. Nvidia EVGA GTX-760 ...

Re: External VGA Monitor?

I do not see 2nd monitor on Display Menu (see pix). Then for some reason it's not connecting to the TV, being VGA or SVGA there are no drivers, All video cards come with their own, and its' default video display - how your able to view firmware. Edit: I've found Mint to pretty well take care of its...

Re: monitor sleeps if i don't login

You haven't logged in, so sits with default settings. Can those default settings be changed? I spent 7+ years on the Usenet in a "any question answered" group, of course almost all were computer questions and Windows related; and know what this answer can do. But I'd leave this area and use a searc...

Re: monitor sleeps if i don't login

If I don't login on bootup, after a period of time my monitor sleeps. Is this configurable? You haven't logged in, so sits with default settings, and expected If I login, then my monitor doesn't sleep. (as expected since I have my settings set to never sleep). Seems to of worked. Edit: I would thin...

Re: External VGA Monitor?

You would setup dual display in your Mint video settings. Also check the Fn keys. I have switched to HDMI. Now how do I setup dual display? Fn keys did not do it. I just go to the Display menu in Mint and select the second monitor, engage it, and where one selects to Mirror. Try this https://www.co...

Re: Which version 32 bit or 64 bit Linux Lite?

Hello, As a Newbie I am slightly uncertain which one I should download for an old Acer Aspire One notebook. Which is running Win XP (probably 32 bit) has: 0.98 GB RAM; 144 GB HDD; 1.60 GHz I'm presuming the 32 bit, although I believe I read somewhere that "most" computers will be fine if the 64 bit...

Re: nemo insanely slow when many files in directory

Oh, a related question. When I move files from directory to directory, this seems to cause problems in the thumbnail cache [synchronization], because sometimes nemo posts a message asking whether to fix the thumbnail cache or "dismiss". Why would nemo not fix the thumbnail cache automatically, sinc...

This is why there are so many Best buys around you find what you like then purchase it from Newegg. Best Buy carries them here but in a computer gaming section away from the rest of the keyboards. You can buy a keyboard from Amazon.com and return it for free if you do not like it but be advised tha...

Re: FDISK /MBR on LVM partition... work?

Not a lot of that post makes much sense to me. If plugging in the second drive causes boot errors it generally means a bootloader has at some time been installed to it, and the BIOS is seeing it as the first disk. I would just zero out the first 200 bytes of the MBR on that disk and see if the BIOS...

Re: Booting Linux 18 from a USB stick with nvidia card

I seem to have a catch-22 issue with this. It just seems that Mint can't cope with nvidia cards until you install the driver, which you can't do because you can't boot Mint in order to do that. What PCIE do you have your card set to? I can't find the post yet on overclockers.com the OP to a over cl...

(Solved) FDISK /MBR on LVM partition... work?

When I install a system I disable the unrequired drives by unplugging them, I've had issues before. Windows and linux mint Cinnamon are both installed on the first drive (1TB). Second drive (D,E,F,G) is my "always drive" it's been built during the years to contain my stuff. This includes files from ...

Sram is everywhere including your CPU cause is so quick, it also has the ability to retain it's memory for many minutes. When all else fails turn your computer off for awhile and give the memory a chance to clear.

@ RobertX Win 10 has digital licenses which are embedded in the motherboard and recorded by M$'s servers. So, reinstalling Win 10 with an Install DVD/USB-stick will usually be followed by automatic activation online, ie no need PK. Can verify this claim. OEM motherboard and Win10 pro purchased on a...

I'm preparing to build a new machine. I'm running XP on my current system (see sig). I'd like to install Linux Mint in a dual boot configuration with XP so I can test drive before committing to LM for the new machine. This will be my first experience with Linux. I was advised in another thread here...
