The very odd split-up of bin and sbin

There are some really odd bits of legacy code in Linux , and some has been inherited from Unix . eg. The UNIX and GNU/Linux file-systems I've often wondered .... How did we get the very odd split-up of bin, sbin [ usr/bin , usr/sbin ] ? It seems to be one of those peculiar things that just got carri...

Re: Musicians on here?

More of a dabbler than a musician . I always loved synths , from the early days of Moog and Korg analogue machines . I'm currently playing with ArtistX Linux which comes with a huge collection of synths , drum machines mixers , recorders and much more . Well worth a look for anyone who likes this ki...

Re: Left Right Speaker Test Female Voice Has Disappeared

The only time this happened on my system I was baffled . I went to "Sound" in System Settings and saw that the slider for balance had moved to the far right . It was that simple ..... I don't know how or why it moved , I certainly didn't do it ! But it's probably worth a look , if you haven't alread...

Re: Using VPN

I use various VPN services in Mint 17.3

Fruho gives me a nice easy-to-use GUI to connect to any of them with a couple of clicks , and no fuss .

https://fruho.com/

It uses OpenVPN and is well worth a look IMO

This link gives some examples that look very similar to what you want achieve - https://www.maketecheasier.com/how-to-setup-dual-monitors-with-xrandr/ It's not going to get your Fn keys working , but it could be a good workaround . Re: fn+F7 and fn+F8 not working on LM18.1, Asus r laptop, 64.

I have had some good results using xrandr to deal with various monitor problems , and function keys not working .

This is as good a place as any to read up on it :-

Re: MX Linux

I'm running MX live on a USB drive right now .

It originates from AntiX but comes with a good selection of stuff bundled in .

Great for older , lower-spec machines !!
Enjoy !

Re: looking for leightweight audio cd burner incl. overburn

imgburn and overburn always worked for me, but i want to focus on native linux programs . so now you see why the xfburn error is simply wrong! it is hard to believe there is no native linux tool out there for that task? a frontend solution would also be very welcome. My emphasis above ^ I appreciat...

Re: looking for leightweight audio cd burner incl. overburn

I think that might be a big ask ! I have never tried anything other than Brasero in Linux and I didn't need overburn . As far as k3b goes ( Burn Baby Burn :) ) , I can't see that it directly supports overburn anyway. But in Windows I have made several attempts , on various occasions , and my success...
