Re: [Not Solved] The “Meltdown” bug is hitting Intel

This is interesting: For months I've been having Motherboard issues - principally losing USB function. So I ordered a new one. And since this bug came up, I've installed all the patches sent out about it, and guess what? The USBs aren't failing any more. Why would that happen? And of course, the new...

Re: USBs not seen by guest OS

I'm not sure how that worked - I went into the Windows Device Manager, which showed all working. Here I applied Windows Rule #1 - "If you can't get it working, either reinstall or reboot." So I reinstalled the drivers for the USB stuff, rebooted Windows, and now everything is all tickety-boo. "Prize...

Re: Dogs?

Don't know if I mentioned it above, but after seeing what the change in food did for the dogs, we did the same for the cat. We changed him to high-density, high protein, high-PRICE cat food - and in just a couple of months he's lost a sh*tload of belly and is way more active and adventurous. He also...

[SOLVED] Linux and iPods

Over the years I've checked out many portable music players: Zunes, Walkmans, iPods, and multiple OEMs. Zunes were the best, but died of a horrible marketing disease. Walkman's are just crappy hardware - they die like flies. OEMs have been even worse - I'm wearing out my welcome at Amazon what with ...

[Solved] USBs not seen by guest OS

Ok, with huge help from Rubber Duck and you folks, I've gotten to the point where everything works in the VB Guest OS (Windows 10) except USB. I've tried multiple methods as found on the interweb to enable them, but nothing is working, except the mouse and keyboard, which do not show up anywhere in ...

Re: Can't copy files into Windows 10 in VB

I've just tried Windows 7 in another Vm (with Guest Eds) and I'm running into the same rights/permissions problems.

I need some direction here. Not seeing it.

I have also discussed this thoroughly with my newly acquired Rubber Duck.
No success as yet.

Re: Can't copy files into Windows 10 in VB

Yes, I have. I can even "drag n drop" but the operation soon fails with a greyed out error message. Trying to copy -to-and-from the clipboard, which is enabled as "Bidirectional" has paste greyed out. If I map a network drive from to the guest, I end up in a quagmire of permissions. As best I can te...

Can't copy files into Windows 10 in VB

I have Windows 10 running in VB Clipboard and Drag n Drop are set as Bi-directional but neither works. All I want this for is to load my iPod again - but Win 10 won't give me administrator rights via any of the methods I've looked up - which means I can't add any tunes to iTunes. Anybody know how I ...

Geo-blocking upside down

Geo-blocking -excluding a user from your site based on the user's location. Is that close enough? Good. I want to do the opposite. I want to know how a user can block websites FROM a specified location. I know I can alter search engines to bring me info from only a specific country's sites. I want t...

This forum is FRIENDLY....

I have, like everyone, had to sign up for access to a lot of information, and sometimes it's been a waste of time. Sometimes it's obviously an info rip-off, sometimes it's just a flat out waste of time. Some tech-help forums are OK, some are absolutely poisonous. This place is downright convivial. I...

Re: Best Computer to Leave On All the Time

I don't understand the issue of leaving a computer on all day? Is it electricity costs? Not meaning to be economically offensive, but I've actually checked my hydro (as we call it here) usage with and without computers. The result is that I basically leave all of them on all of the time except for w...

Re: Linux Mint. I want to like it, I really do... (general impressions)

If you've ever been into cars, then you'll understand Linux. No cars have ever been perfect, neither has Linux. Sorry, Bill and the 2 Steves, and Paul and.... But Linux is like old cars - you can lift the hood and pull them apart and put them back together, sometimes even better. And when you've don...

Re: what mail client do you prefer

I especially like Yandex, since I found out that Google considers forwarding my Gmail to Yandex is a "Security Risk" and won't allow it. I tend to use a Gmail (that I got years ago before I knew better) for anything that might be official, or ever involve lawyers...you know what I mean. I'm using Gm...

[SOLVED] Chrome is weird and a pain-in-the....

Alltray won't work with Chrome, but Kdocker will. The Chrome window border doesn't give me the regular context menu, where you can, among other things, move it to another Workspace. No menu at all. What's up with this? I'm only asking because Revered Spousal Unit is used to it and won't give it up, ...
