Some pretty strange juju happening here. Tried one more time and finally the new Account opened without the error. No idea why as I didn't do anything more. (Theme from "Twilight Zone" in background)
All well.

Re: Gnucash keeps looking for an old data file from previous installation
I should have added that the missing file was a .qfx file with the added extension .gnucash as in "ofx.qfx.gnucash"

{Solved}Gnucash keeps looking for an old data file from previous installation
When a new install of Gnucash first opens, it keeps looking for an old data file from a previous installation. That time I wasn't able to get it working as well as I wanted, so I uninstalled and purged it. After many more failures with Accounting packages for Linux I'm back to try it again, however,...

Re: Mint doesn't know this program is there, but it works??
I downloaded "skrooge-2.4.0.tar.xz" from the Skrooge site, because the Mint repository had an old beta and the updated repository won't install because it "can't find the internet" - so there are issues with this app on my computer. I installed it and all it's dependencies as per...

Mint doesn't know this program is there, but it works??
I'm running Mint 18, and I recently installed a program called "Skrooge" from the tar-ball, because the repository package is still a version behind and it's a beta anyway. So I'm not happy with the program and I want to delete it. But I'm having a little trouble with figuring out what Min...

Re: trouble installing Skrooge
Wonderful! I can now get an icon in the panel - thanks again. Would you or anybody have any idea why the PPA I added doesn't want to find my internet connection? I mean, I'm Ok with this now, but I'm curious what's going on with the PPA and the Package manager for next time I want a newer program. A...

Re: trouble installing Skrooge
the reason I'm trying to install from tar ball is that Mint's version is 1.9.3 beta, while the website has 2.4.x stable available. I also found a PPA that works with Xenial, but it won't install from the package manager - it keeps saying "Check my internet connection", which is just fine. ...

trouble installing Skrooge
I'm still pretty new to installing Linux software, and I'm hoping for some help here with installing Skrooge Personal Accounting from a tar ball. First, I did everything the readme said, and can open the program from the command line. But I want to open from the GUI - how would I do that - there's n...

Re: ipod touch
Thank you , xenopeek. Solved my issue - didn't get it installed yet as there are still errors, but I'll figure those out. No, the big one - I told you it would be something simple - I was forgetting "sudo" :? All these months and it was that simple and I couldn't see it. You're the first ...

Re: [SOLVED] How to install .tar.gz files
I have been having this issue forever. # ./configure bash: ./configure: No such file or directory # make make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. # make install make: *** No rule to make target 'install'. Stop. I've checked the compiler is installed and am told it's Thread model: ...

Desperate noob here - please don't tell me this has been answered somewhere else as I've probably tried it and it didn't work. I'm hoping Mint users are NOT the big (expletive deleted) that Ubuntu users are. I have searched and searched to no avail - I am completely unable to get any program to work...
