Re: Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon crash - now everything's gone weird!
Re-install. If you made a separate home partition, those files should be safe if you don't format home in the install. If your original install was all on one partition you could try re-installing without formatting the root partition, but then you might not fix the problem. Anyway, re-install and c...

Re: vpn
NordVPN can be had for $2-3 a month; they have thousands of servers now, including some onion-routers, a couple of Tor-specific servers and Double VPNs (2 countries in series)
Pretty damn good, and they're in Panama.
Their support is superb.

Re: Setup openvpn does not work (SOLVED)
So what does it mean when the little "lock" icon stops appearing when connected to your VPN?
The connection still shows safe at ipleak.net and dnsleaktest.com, but why is it AWOL?
Asking that helped me rephrase my search and i found:
https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/5527

Re: My ISP suddenly is snooping/blocking my VPN
Seems I've been having 2 separate issues at once. Just got word from NordVPN : Seems like the issue might be related to IPv6, which is currently not supported on our systems. Please try disabling it as follows: To disable IPv6 on Linux: https://support.nordvpn.com/#/Connectivity/Linux/1047409212/How...

My ISP suddenly is snooping/blocking my VPN
When I connect to one of my VPN's servers I always run DNSLeakTest to see if... It's always apparently worked before. But.. All of a sudden, it always comes right back to me, here. If I run different leak tests, I fail, too, they all come back to my ISP And Ii can only connect to VPN servers in my o...

Re: Can't remove directory as root
I would really like to get rid of both Backups and Backups1 . But so far even writing zeroes to the disk, new partition table, etc. which I did yesterday, has not gotten rid of it. So I guess it's something that's stuck in a file somewhere. Currently running a couple of "grep" commands to ...

Re: Can't remove directory as root
I have a couple images I don't know how to post, and that last command gave an interesting result: MainBox ~ $ sudo lsblk --sort name --output name, label, partlabel, size, fstype, mountpoint, state [sudo] password for : NAME LABEL PARTLABEL SIZE FSTYPE MOUNTPOINT STATE sda 1.8T running sda1 150G ext4 / s...

Re: Can't remove directory as root
Hey, if this mystery is intriguing you folks, I'll hold off "windowizing" (as in reboot/reinstall from olden days) until I have to.
I was just getting frustrated and impatient.
Maybe figuring this out will find a cause for all the nonsense.

Re: Timeshift Schedule
Thanks for all, though. A few days ago I started messing with encryption and email; I don't know how, but the box started doing all kinds of weird things, not just with Timeshift. I have another post here about the mysterious appearance of an unknown device in media (both nemo and terminal) that doe...

Re: Timeshift Schedule
Doubt it all you want.
The backups were every hour, with half-hour ones thrown in. The schedule setting didn't affect it.
No good on this box. Uninstalled.

Just figured it out - it was VirtualBox that had it wrong - I'd forgotten to add the extension pack.
Thanks and cheers.

Re: Can't remove directory as root
There is not, and never was, anything called "Backups1' on this box.
It simply appeared in /media
Root can't get rid of it
it shows in Nemo and in the terminal, butdoesn't exist -
this is why I'm going to blow it away one-more-time
because I've wasted too much time on it already

But where is this one called "Backups1" coming from in Nemo?
