[SOLVED] Can't remove directory as root

I have an empty directory/partition showing in /media that mysteriously came from nowhere and I can't get rid of it. even as root. It's empty, no hidden files. It's on an extra disk I added to the box, to use for backups. The disk was re-partitioned with Gparted, from a live USB. The partition I mad...

Re: Timeshift Schedule

Me, too. I've just discovered that, while I had Timeshift scheduled for weekly, it was doing a backup every 30 - 60 minutes. Nothing I can find affects this. I want a backup program I can schedule, because I tend to forget. I tried so many now, I'm verging on giving up and just rebuilding periodical...

Re: How to tell if Enigmail is working?

OK, now what have I done: I can't access Add-ons in T'bird anymore, there's no link on the page. About to get rid of it and try another client - T'bird lately has been nothing but problems, ever since I started looking into PGP. I'm running Cinnamon - can I use Kmail? I hope so, cuz I'm ticked off w...

Re: Mint Software manager has disappeared

Code: Select all

sudo install --reinstall mintinstall
[sudo] password for PatD:
install: unrecognized option '--reinstall'
Try 'install --help' for more information.
"Install --help" was a waste of time

Now what? and thank you...

Re: [SOLVED] How to tell if Enigmail is working?

This may be what happened - no GnuPG(1)
I may have removed it trying to fix other feck-ups.

Mint Software manager has disappeared

As the subject, all of a sudden I have no Software manager that I can find anywhere.
Can somebody tell me where I will find it so I can get it back in my menus?

I discovered this while trying to figure out PGP etc., I must have fecked up and deleted it or somethin'

Re: How to tell if Enigmail is working?

Thanks.
I've found more guides for this, and so far none are giving clear info - there's always something left out. Perhaps I'll find everything I need by a lengthy process of elimination lol

How to tell if Enigmail is working?

I've checked that GnuPGP is installed, and then added Enigmail to T'bird. After running the setup wizard and generating keys, the top of the "Write" page says "this message will be unsigned and unencrypted", right beside the button to "Attach my public key" and it doesn...

Re: IRC is baffling me

I'm not sure I follow. If I'm using a VPN, does IRC compromize this? And with all the world talking about anonymity, how can this work without keeping your info private? I'm missing something here. I'm not always a bright spark... But I have to say that this thing about "chat rooms" is fin...

IRC is baffling me

I'm new to IRC, and I've run into a major issue before I'm even started. Every client I've tried is automatically signing into chats with the user name from my computer. I don't like this. How do I stop it? This is a deal-breaker. If IRC is going to tell everybody who I am, I want no part of it. Obv...

Re: Hardware issue with USB ports - don't know if it's because Linux somehow?

OK, this is insane. I've been looking for this solution for close to 6 months, and I finally replaced the MB, and it has the same issue. What the heck? So more searching and I actually ended up finding something in the bottom of a thread on an Ubuntu forum. A 1-line command, instead of major scripti...

Re: Hardware issue with USB ports - don't know if it's because Linux somehow?

This is a big box, it's labelled a "Tower" even though everything I've found calls it a mini or micro tower. And the power supply is larger than normal and won't fit in a generic mini-tower. The specs for the box say the power supply is 320 w, and it's out of stock at HP. It also has unusu...

Re: Hardware issue with USB ports - don't know if it's because Linux somehow?

I think so.
But this is one of those "proprietary" cases and the power supply maybe is, too. I'll have to look into that.
Thanks.

[SOLVED] Rear USB ports quit working

I have an old HP Compaq 6200 / i7 etc. The issue is I can't get anything to work consistently in the rear ports except an HP printer. I've tried multiple keyboards and mice, but they all stop working after a few minutes. Only the front USBs work properly. So I replaced the motherboard with the ident...
