Solved: upgrade from mint 18 to mint 18.2

Seems the applet that was causing the issue was Places. I went to online to cinnamon spices and places had a red dot and once I refreshed the online the list Places updated and now the message is gone.

upgrade from mint 18 to mint 18.2

All seemed to go well thought get this startup applet message pop that states check the syslog or looking-glass log for applet issue and I am posting the syslog. This is a learning experience for me how to fix this as well. This is my first time performing an upgrade though update manager.

Re: Crackling distorted sound... and how does one fix things in Linux?

Have you tried Linux Mint 18? In anycase type this in terminal this can take time.

Code: Select all

sudo alsaconf
If this does not fix the issue this will force alsa to reset type in terminal if the above command fails to help

Code: Select all

sudo alsa force-reload

Re: Is Mint 18.1 compatible with Bluetooth Smart mice?

From a little research on the mouse in question it would work with modern like Linux and Ubuntu distributions Mint the mouse should work. In case you have issues with pairing have a look at this

Re: PulseAudio not running at startup

I think the best option is to remove jackd and reboot. If this fixes the sound great but if it does not you can try reinstalling
pulseaudio see if that fixes the sound issue. just use synaptic and search for Pulseaudio. click it and reinstall than reboot.

Re: Chrome browser

I install Google chrome by downloading the ,deb file from the website only for 64bit systems. Than double click on it and chrome will be installed. If you are using a 32bit OS than you are stuck with Chromium. Use synaptic to install Chromium or software manager.
