Re: thunderbird 60.9.1 vs 68.1.2

That helps, tremendously. Thanks. Has anyone tried to use the same profile in a dual boot system? If I point my win7 TB to the same profile as my Mint TB, will it get confused?

Re: thunderbird 60.9.1 vs 68.1.2

Yes it starts, runs, but is completely naive, knowing nothing about the old email accounts, etc. Thanks. To move it into a folder that all users can access via a desktop launcher, I would have to stuff it into usr/bin rather than any specific username, right? Can I simply delete what is in the exist...

Re: thunderbird 60.9.1 vs 68.1.2

Well I cannot find where my version 60 is installed in the file system. so I don't know how to replace/update it. So please help - what do I do with this new version folder? The windows side of my dual boot was much easier.

thunderbird 60.9.1 vs 68.1.2

The software packager shows only version 60, but the Mozilla site has version 68 as a tar.bz2 file. Unpacking it shows a Thunderbird folder, but no readme and no instructions on how to install it. Help?

Tried this - no effect. The steam window (updating steam) pops up, then nothing. Process list doesn't show steam either.

Re: kernel updates - error messages

4.15.0-54-generic is Mint's current default kernel and not anything you'd need Ukuu for. It is perfectly up to date
Oh thank you! That tells me what I need to do :) I'll call this solved

Re: kernel updates - error messages

How about you use a supported kernel instead of installing super-outdated testing kernels via ukuu? Those kernels you are installing went end-of-life a year ago. Because using a 5 series kernel borks my system while 4.15.0-54-generic at least lets it run OK? [/quote]PS: But to actually answer your ...

[SOLVED] kernel updates - error messages

Booting with grub into mint 19.1 I was using an older kernal (4.15.0-47-generic), and tried to update to the new 4.5 series kernal with ukuu. That resulted in a very unhappy system, with jerky mouse lagging reactions to command inputs, etc. So I tried to revert to the latest of the 4.15 series (4.15...

Re: New SATA drive - chown is obvious but gibberish to me

OK - as follows, although I read that ntfs disks always show root as owner, and don't allow you to change this. Am I just barking up the wrong tree? sudo parted -l [sudo] password for ets: Model: ATA ADATA SP550 (scsi) Disk /dev/sda: 240GB Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/4096B Partition Table: ...

Re: Steam not opening.

I'm running kernal 4.15. I tried updating to kernal 5.1.16 via ukuu, and my system became essentially unusable - jerky mouse, second screen gone. So still no fix. And the newer kernals bork my system. And Steam still won't run. grrrr.......

Re: New SATA drive - chown is obvious but gibberish to me

Wow - that is a lot to digest :) The drive in question is formatted NTFS, and has 2 partitions (D & E). My fstab (as noted above) has a bunch of entries that don't seem to correspond to anything physical. Physically, I have 3 SATA drives: the first is the boot drive partitioned in half, with one hal...

Re: New SATA drive - chown is obvious but gibberish to me

You need to take ownership of the mountpoint which is in /mnt If it is the last drive listed in fstab then: Copy/Paste the following into a terminal: sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /mnt/b25ddf96-5606-44a0-8a01-9fdcc846a5cf Don't substitute your user name for $USER:$USER, leave that as is As noted, that ...

Epson Powerlite 470 off an nVidia card?

Curiosity here - has anyone used this model projector (or similar model) off the HDMI port of an nVidia gForce GTX 1060 (6 GB) card for display? I just got one, and was thinking of using it even though it has only XGA resolution.

Re: Steam not opening.

Problem still not really solved. Yes the flatpak version runs, and it will let me install a game, but I need to install the game folders on a new etx4 drive I added to the system to avoid filling my boot drive. But I could not find the steam library folders anywhere (side note - where are they? not ...

file system media folder essentially empty?

I'm a bit confused. I see all my partitions under /mnt with the usual long alphanumberic string labeling them. But under /mount I thought I was supposed to see my partitions with their labels (that I give them via the disk utility), but they are not there. All I see are 2 folders: one called under m...
