weird bar blanking bottom of primary monitor
I have a display problem. I have 2 displays running of a gt240, and they used to come up just fine. Now when I boot, I get a band of blue covering the bottom 20% of the main screen, thus hiding the menu bar. The menu bar is still there under the blue panel (the start button pops up the usual stuff, ...

Re: backupgnucash
Did you happen to backup your ~/.gnucash directory? If so you can just restore that and you should be good to go. It's that simple? <boggles> It hasn't been that simple since the old CPM days :) That will save everything? Don't I have to save the .aqbanking folder as well? And where are the reports?

backupgnucash
Well, on my moving from win7 in to Mint, gnucash itself went well after I found out what had to be moved :) The next problem is backing up the program data, including reports and aqbanking data, to my google drive. On the win7 side, it worked well. But I cannot seem to get the jar file working on th...

Re: Reinstalling Windows with Linux Mint 17.3
or you do disk/partitions backups using a Macrium Reflect boot disk. It is always a good idea to snap a complete disk image when you buy a new computer. I am leery of Macrium. My attempts to upgrade from win7 top win10 failed with a fatal pssnap.sys error, whioch is traced to the macrium reflect di...

right click mouse button menus?
I am trying to find out if there is a way to get back the right mouse click/drag menu in linux which exists in windows, i.e. when you right click/drag file, a menu poops up asking move or copy or create-link (shortcut). At the moment\, it seems as if the only way yo move files is to do 2 actions: cu...

moving from 32 bit to 64 bit?
Does trying to move from 32 bit Mint 18 to 64 bit Mint 18 require completely reinstalling everything, or (wild hope here) does the installer recognize that a previous Mint installation exists, and will simply replace the 32 bit with its own 64 bit version, leaving all else in place? - Elmar

I used 1password on the windows side, but since they didn't nartively support linux, I went to lastpass, and it works very well for me.fred19 wrote:I use LastPass addon in Firefox and Chromium.

Re: [SOLVED] How to access homegroup on Windows 7
Finally got things to work! It was adding the lines (as administrator) to the samba conf file that did it. I had to 1) respecify the workgroup name, and 2) add in the name resolve order line. It should not have to be this difficult ... but all's well that ends in the well, as they say

Re: [SOLVED] How to access homegroup on Windows 7
Reading through this thread, accessing windows machines with drives set to share seems to require a fixed IP. But all my windows machines are DHCP, so I never know what the IP will be assigned (except that it is in the 192.168.1.x range). What do I need to do to automatically scan the network for av...

linux TCP vulnerability?
Ran into this story -
http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/ ... 080916.php
Should we by default do the recommended?
1. Open /etc/sysctl.conf, append a command "/net.ipv4/tcp_challenge_ack_limit = 999999999".
2. Use "sysctl -p" to update the configuration.
