Are you talking about the items in the left hand pane under Computer?
No - the right hand panel under the computer icon. I see columns labeled name, size, type, date modified and owner. Only the name is displayed, All the other columns are blank or say "unknown"

Re: why does computer:/// show no information?

it is in list format - but why are there columns there if they never show any information? Yes, I can see what is there if I click on each drive. That is not the question.

New SATA drive - chown is obvious but gibberish to me

Just added a new drive, and its owner is root, so I can do nothing with it. I have partitioned it and formatted it with gparted, and changed its displayed labels with the disks tool. But I do not see any graphical way to grab ownership of the disks. here is my fstab # /etc/fstab: static file system ...

[solved] why does computer:/// show no information?

On the Mate desktop, clicking the computer icon, opens a window with the location of "computer:///" - this location shows all my drives OK, but no info on size, type or date modified. Why not?

/usr/bin/java -jar fails to run java file in 19.1

This is locked: how to run jar files etc. topic - recommends using open with other application and inserting this command: /usr/bin/java -jar But alas it fails also. The file exists as a link to /etc/alternatives/java, but going there merely results in finding a link that references the same /etc/al...

[Solved] Re: mouse buttons in 19 vs 18

that works! click-hold, then hold alt and drag, then release and the popup appears. Thanks. Why the right click is no longer parsed is beyond me, but whatever.

[Solved] Re: Epson Perfection V300 Photo scanner no longer works

Solved - somehow by itself. sane-find scanner, now finds the scanner, and now iscan works. the attempt to use "sudo xed /etc/udev/rules.d/79-udev-epson.rules" threw errors (gdk-critical, etc.), so I don't know what happened there, but no matter. Scanner works.

Re: Epson Perfection V300 Photo scanner no longer works

OK - something really weird - tried to bring up "Driver Manager" in the Administration tab ... and NOTHING happens. Wanted to look at the USB drivers, but it seems 19.1 won't let me. Help???

Epson Perfection V300 Photo scanner no longer works

Under Mint 18.3 imagescan worked perfectly. Since upgrading to 19.1, the OS can no longer contact the scanner, nor can simple scan (usb connection). Reinstalling imagescan fails. How to proceed? Thanks.

How are you trying to run it? If you open a terminal & type steam then it should either open as the below picture, or give you some error messages. mouse buttons in 19 vs 18

I've recently upgraded from 18.e to 19, and find that the mouse button behavior has changed. IN 18, when I hold down both mouse buttons on a file, I could move it to another folder. This capability seems to have vanished in 19. I have to cut, then paste. Where is the setting to get the windows equiv...

[SOLVED] Re: 64 bit install alongside win7 to diff HDD, and no grub?

Thanks for all the feedback, but I think that I am simply going to go the dumb, simple and easy way, and shrink the windows partition to make room for Linux on the main drive. That win7 partition is just over 200 GB in size, and so there is plenty of room. I'll try leave the swap on the IDE drive, s...

Re: 64 bit install alongside win7 to diff HDD, and no grub?

Of course, it seems the obvious "solution" is to shrink the windows partition on the SATA drive, put Linux on that physical drive, and move all the user data to the IDE drive. *sigh* I had hoped that I could simply overwrite the MBR on the SATA drive to point at the Linux drive. Is this possible (be...

Re: 64 bit install alongside win7 to diff HDD, and no grub?

Got into the BIOS. UEFI boot is disabled. The second drive is on an IDE controller add-in board, the first drive is a SATA drive. UEFI enable fails to boot at all (it goes looking for a network boot via DHCP), so I turned UEFI off again. The BIOS shows both drives, but does not allow them to selecte...
