Kernel version question...

I'm using 19.1 Cinnamon.
There were several kernel updates which installed fine but 4.15.0-041500-generic is always loading.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Bash sound question...

I'd like to add a script to startup which would allow only one application (RadioTray) to play sound and mute all other sounds.
(It's for a sort of kiosk setup.)
Is it possible?
TIA

No, rsync is probably the fastest way, or at least it's what I use, too. But your implementation is way complicated. I have this in my .bashrc:

Code: Select all

deldir() {
  sudo rsync -rd /dev/null "$1" 1>/dev/null
  sudo rm -rf "$1" 1>/dev/null
}
Thanks for the tip.

Bash script - TurboDelete...

I published turbodelete script on Github https://github.com/invexx/turbodelete which quickly deletes huge directories using rsync.

I'd like to know if there is an even faster method.

TIA

Re: Bash script question...

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but the following command never exits (should exit if CPU is under 50%): Lovely, another locale issue lurks; specifically I expect you are using a locale with 12-hour plus AM/PM time display (such as en_US.UTF-8). Said AM/PM causes mpstat's %idle column to become num...

Re: Bash script question...

Install the sysstat package and try LC_NUMERIC=C mpstat 1 | awk -v x=1 'NR > 3 { if ($12 > 100-x) exit }' in which of course the "1" in "x=1" is to be replaced. You may have gotten a notification a bit earlier when I posted this without the LC_NUMERIC=C: shortly after posting I ...

Re: Sound effects question...

Thank you very much. I had no idea that the sounds are in 3 different locations. However, how would I enable for example trash-empty.oga? Sound/Sounds has only 13 sound effects available. No Trash Empty. There isn't a clearnotifications.oga in that location. You need to provide the path to an existi...

Re: Sound effects question...

Thank you but it's not the same as clicking on the panel notification icon. And the purpose? I have to clear notifications many, many times a day. I'd like to bring the mouse cursor to the bottom left corner (hot corner) to execute a script which would show me notifications for 1 second and then aut...

Re: Sound effects question...

I'd like to create a script which would display notifications (the same like clicking the notification icon in the panel), display them for 1 second, delete them and exit.
I didn't get very far :)

Re: Sound effects question...

Thank you again.
I feel so stupid.
No, I didn't restart Cinnamon.
When I did, everything worked fine.
Thank you VERY much!
You have no idea how happy this small tweak makes me :)

Re: Sound effects question...

Thanks a lot.

I'm sure I didn't make a mistake when I added:
Main.soundManager.playSoundFile(0, '/usr/share/mint-artwork/sounds/clearnotification.oga');

But it didn't work. No sound effect when I click 'Clear notifications'.

Re: Edit cusor question...

Hi,

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking the edit cursor should be more visible :)
I vaguely remember Windows allowed to change thickness and color under Accessibility.

I tried https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=954607 but it didn't work :(
