Re: Change Partition Format to MBR Without Data Loss?

It is indeed listed as " Boot Loader path \Windows\system32\winload.exe " so this is a good thing for getting a dual boot thing going.

Re: Change Partition Format to MBR Without Data Loss?

You don't need AVLinux for that information. Check Windows Disk Manager. Or - open a command prompt (as an administrator), and run: bcdedit /enum This will list the BCD settings. Go to "Windows Boot Loader" > Path It will list the Boot Loader path as either "\Windows\system32\winload.exe" (Legacy m...

Re: Change Partition Format to MBR Without Data Loss?

I'll try, but I read a little while ago that AVLinux does not use sudo. All I've done is boot to a bootable USB key, I have not actually changed anything yet with partitions, not installed anything yet. I just didn't want to guess and unintentionally wipe out my existing Windows 7 install. It wouldn...

Change Partition Format to MBR Without Data Loss?

Is it possible? I have a Windows 7 Pro 32 bit install and I'm wanting to set it up as a dual boot system with the other side being AVLinux. I do nothing but music production on this machine, so I'm looking to give AVLinux a test drive without losing any of my existing Windows install. Just as I was ...

Re: Chromium And Certificates Problem?

Simply using update manager, which included an update for Chromium, fixed the issue. Thanks!

Re: Home Workgroup File/Folder Sharing

You provided no information about your system or how samba is set up so there is no way anyone can help you. If you run the commands and look at the output you would know that is does not provide any "sensitive" information about your system. It is regrettable because without more information it's ...

How To Record Audio Stream?

I play in a band, and I record audio tracks from youtube to use when I practice at home, to learn the tunes. In Windows I used Sound Recorder. It would record whatever audio I could hear on the headphones, then save it as a wav file. I didn't have to tell it a source or anything , it just recorded a...

Re: Installing Samba Server in Mint 18

Mint has decided not to install the samba server components in the final release of Mint 18. Here's what needs to be installed to restore it: Some folks install a package: system-config-samba as a GUI to administer Samba. That package hasn't been updated for years so it will not run until you do th...

Re: Home Workgroup File/Folder Sharing

It must have something to do with the fact that my Linux machine is (not intentionally) set up as a "standalone machine." I tried to do a net join and it said I cannot join as a standalone machine.

Re: Home Workgroup File/Folder Sharing

Regrettably, you will need to provide detailed information on how you are set up. Posting the output of the following commands will give us that: testparm -s net usershare info --long inxi -S Why is it regrettable? Do those commands result in a listing of sensitive info about my system? Do you need...

Re: Home Workgroup File/Folder Sharing

Apparently Samba makes this fairly simple? I downloaded Samba and did the share and permissions thing. I'm just waiting for one of the locals to tell me if they can see the folder. If the folder is under my home dir, does that mean my user has to be logged on in order for the folder to be shared? Or...

Home Workgroup File/Folder Sharing

We have been running 3 Windows machines and a Mac at home for several years. Since I frequently help others with their Windows-based docs and files, I had a folder on my machine that was shared to the entire house. Everyone had read/write/delete rights to anything in that folder, and they understood...

...is power users who are full of themselves. I haven’t encountered any here on the Mint forums yet, (please stay that way) but you all know who I mean – I call them “Leet Haxors”, and hope they find the term insulting. Re: Why did you switch

I'm curious to know why people have switched from Windows to Linux? What hurdles have you come across and do you ever get the urge to go back to WIndows? When I had to fix a friend's laptop that had Windows 10 on it. 10 minutes on 10 and I suddenly "got it" and told myself "I have to go check out L...

Re: All Logins Are Displayed Every Time?

There are several login themes which do not display all users' names - in fact, no name - only an entry box for a name. System Settings > Login Window > Theme Thanks! This will do for now. It does display all user names.....IF I click on the drop down arrow. Or I can enter a name and password manua...
