All Logins Are Displayed Every Time?

When I first boot up to Mint, it displays all 4 or 5 users that I have created. The user then clicks on the one to log in with and enters the appropriate password.

Is there a way to make it display only the user id of the last successful login?

Do I Have or Need Adobe Flash?

I opened update manager and the first thing in the list is "flashplugin-nonfree" with a description that says, "Downloads and Installs the Adobe Flash Player plugin." Is this telling me that flash player is not already installed? If not, then how is it I've been watching tv shows and youtube clips? ...

Re: Linux mint 18 is very slow #2

It's been better since I did all the updates. It's responsive enough for all things home office related. The only sluggishness I see now is an occasional web page that takes a bit longer to load than other pages take. But there's no guarantee that's my machine, could be how the site is being dished ...

Re: Screensaver Misbehaving, Can't Change It

I used your settings, and a few others. I set the power management setting to "Never" so the screen would never blank, just so I could see the screensaver. But no matter what I do the screensaver never comes on. I've been gone for over 3 hours now and I came back to this thread still sitting on the ...

Re: Mint 18 screen saver / screen off settings are terrible

I set the power management setting to "Never." I've been away for over 3 hours. The screen never went blank, but the screensaver never came on. When I returned I was still looking at this thread on the monitor.

So I guess I have to conclude that the screensaver does not work at all in Mint 18.

Re: Mint 18 screen saver / screen off settings are terrible

There are 2 settings, which are in a way related to each other although they are doing different things: At first the setting in the screensaver settings (Lock the computer when inactive), which you have set to 1 hour. At second the setting about the monitor going off after some time of inactivity....

Re: Mint 18 screen saver / screen off settings are terrible

I currently have no way to set the length of idle time before the screensaver comes on. I can hardly believe this. There should be an option in the settings page of the screensaver settings, which says "Lock the computer when inactive" with the default setting of 10 minutes and several values to ch...

Screensaver Misbehaving, Can't Change It

It appears the idle time delay before screensaver starts is hard coded or something. (someone suggested this will be fixed in the next Cinnamon update) One problem this is causing has to do with watching video programs online. I'm watching an episode of my favorite sci-fi program enlarged to full sc...

Re: Does Mint Have A System Restore Equivalent?

If you have installed with separate / and home partitions, you can reinstall the OS without losing any of your personal files. There are several ways to back up your entire system. I have used Clonezilla to backup and restore partitions and/or drives, but I know there are other programs that people...

Re: Does Mint Have A System Restore Equivalent?

System restore is an invention by Microsoft to save them pennies by them not having to supply an install system CD with each computer. In Linux each distro is installed direct from either a CD/DVD or an USB flash drive so system restore isn't needed. Makes sense. Maybe what I really want to know an...

Re: Linux mint 18 is very slow

In my opinion you just don't have the CPU horsepower with a single core AMD. Also what's the memory :?: sudo inxi -mxz 2 GB I've been doing some updates, and one of them was the amd micro code update. I am not 100% sure what that update is doing, but I haven't had any freezes since I rebooted. Than...

Does Mint Have A System Restore Equivalent?

Over the years I have saved myself and others more than a few times by using Windows System Restore.

Is there anything similar in Linux?

Linux mint 18 is very slow #2

I'm noticing a similar behavior to the OP's issue on my machine, it's very intermittent but it's enough of a stall when it happens that I really notice it. It will almost totally freeze for up to a minute, the mouse cursor still moves and I can do new tasks like open folders, but anything already op...

Re: Mint 18 screen saver / screen off settings are terrible

The OP has a fair point about the settings. Believe me, this isn't the first time it's been brought up. The lock screen/screensaver in Cinnamon was completely rewritten for Cinnamon3.2/Mint18.1. Part of that has been discussion about how to revamp the settings to make them more sensible. They haven...

No. Be nice to all members. Then all will be happy. Skeptical, but I hope you're right. I'm new, so it's hard to put Windows behind me.....but I want to get better with Linux just like anyone else who is trying to make the switch. I already know for a fact that there is at least one fair minded mod...
