Re: Various Weird Problems

I currently run Mint 18 KDE on an older HP 620 laptop with no problems at all. Resource usage at idle is around 500 mb ram so as long as you have 1gb ram installed you should be fine.

Re: Switching from Linux to Windows

Windows is designed to create it's MBR on the first partition of a hard disk drive. The short answer is you can easily install Windows 10 over linux then later partition your hard drive to use dual boot with Windows 10 and Linux Mint. Just delete the swap partition to recover all disk space then all...

Re: Boot Menu disappears on a dual boot system (Windows 10 & Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon)

For dualbooting Windows and Mint I use a program called EasyBCD for Windows. The windows MBR and Grub stay isolated in their own partitions (install grub to linux partition you create at install) and with EasyBCD you create a boot menu that allows you to select either bootloader (MBR for Windows or ...

Re: Virtualbox Driver

Instead of installing from package manager I have always used Oracle's site to download and install the latest version of VirtualBox. Just give the FULL page a read so you will be sure of a complete installation. https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

Re: Firefox upgrade

Firefox 49.0.1 includes the Widevine plugin for DRM content (Netflix) so you can access sites without needing to have Google Chrome installed in linux distros. All you need is User Agent Switcher extension and point it to a Windows version of Firefox. The rumor is that you will not need to use a use...

The KDE "cashew" has been replaced with a wrench icon now. It is found at the extreme right beside the digital clock.

Re: Change icon associated to file type

In File Manager right click File or Folder and in the dropdown click Properties. In the window that opens click on File Type Options button. Click on the icon button (graphic icon to the left of File Patterns). A window will open where you can select MIMEtype or system icon to be associated with fil...

WinFF is a great converter without the audio/video lag in VLC, it is also faster as well. http://winff.org/html_new/ :D

Re: Recording/Converting DVDs in VLC

It is still going to be a time consuming process because VLC can only rip and convert at x1 speed. Here is an article with more info.

Re: VMWare 12, Mint18 No full screen

What resolution do you have Mint set to in vm? VMware will use it by default if guest tools are installed. Use native resolution(host monitor resolution settings) if you want it full screen at boot.

Re: Poll: What's Mint KDE 18 like? Please click!

After an install over Mint 17.3 KDE and numerous problems I decided to wipe the HDD and do a "fresh and clean" install with full updates and driver installs at first boot. Since doing that I have had none of the problems I experienced previously. Mint 18 KDE has been very stable and so far not a sin...

Re: Silverlight in Wine for Netflix?

The latest stable version of Firefox 49.0.1 64-bit includes Widevine plugin so users can watch/use DRM content online. If you have problems with Netflix just install User Agent Switcher and have it point to Firefox 47 or 50 in Windows browsers. I have been using it since a clean install of Linux Min...

Greetings from an Oldster

Hi all!! I started tinkering about with with Linux Mint KDE with the Maya release, at first in vm then converted to dual boot with Win7. I enjoyed dual booting and upgrading Mint KDE over time until the announcement of end of life for Win7. I am now fully committed to being a non-Windows user and on...

Re: VirtualBox guest utilities at boot

Thanks WharfRat! Linux Mint 18 KDE is the only OS installed on my laptop and I was looking for ways to decrease boot time. I have already change boot from "quiet splash" to "profile" and didn't know if the VB guest-utilities were required. I use VMware for running the 2-3 Windows programs that I nee...

VirtualBox guest utilities at boot

Can anyone tell me why VirtualBox guest utilities mount at boot and is it safe to disable with BUM? VirtualBox isn't installed, I prefer VMware Workstation.
