Remember to install the correct extensions pack for the version you are using. They offer more features and resolve video and hardware compatibility.

Re: How to install pipelight/silverlight

This article is 3 years old and might be of some help to you. Most browsers for linux now include the WideVine plugin for DRM content and at most just need a user agent string change for most sites. This site gives Debian specific instructions on how to install and enable Pipelight. http://linuxg.ne...

Re: Is the enthusiasm gone on KDE/Plasma?

The problems that came with KDE Plasma 5 in Mint 18 made a lot of users go back to 17.3. What very few understood was that Plasma was a whole different desktop environment than what KDE 4.xx.xxx had been. Linux Mint is often criticized for "lagging behind" other KDE distros. I think this is a good i...

While I haven't personally tested this it does indeed look interesting and seems to be what you are looking for and is for linux and Windows.

Re: Problems with Windows 7 and Mint 18 boot

I have found that the easiest way to dualboot Windows and Linux is to use a program called EasyBCD. With it I install Windows and it's MBR first and after installed partition the drive for linux and swap partitions. I then install linux and install grub to the linux partition itself keeping it isola...

Re: Any reason not to use KDE?

As a "newbie" I started with KDE! KDE is one of the oldest desktop environments for linux distros as well. I have tried MATE, Cinnamon, LXDE, Xfce, Gnome, and Unity but, by far, KDE for me is the best. I like how easy it is to customize to suit my taste and needs. Some say it is harder on resources ...

Re: USB Storage write protected

I use the ROSA usb image tool when I need to recover a usb flashdrive after using the drive for OS installs. It not only allows you to make a bootable usb but has the option to clear it once you are finished and want to recover full usage of flashdrive. After "Clear" function is used you will need t...

Re: Bootable windows USB on linux

Go to Sourceforge and download Unetbootin 494 for linux. You need this old version because it can use NTFS but not later ones. Format your flashdrive (at least 8gb) in NTFS. Open the directory where you downloaded Unetbootin 494 right click on it and in Permissions check Make Executable. From there ...

Re: How to verify Linux Mint .iso file

You can also use a feature built in to Dolphin in Linux Mint 18.1 KDE. Copy and save the checksum from the site where you downloaded the file, program, iso, etc, to text editor. When the download finishes open Dolphin and go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right click on it. On the...

Re: desktop environment vs. edition

It isn't wise to have multiple desktop environments installed at the same time as this causes conflicts and as you found out impairs functionality. That is why most linux distros are released with desktop environment specific versions.

Re: Im exploring the KDE environment.

To remove the IM icon from System tray just right click above it (takes a few clicks but you will get it) and click on system tray settings then just uncheck Instant Messaging along with any other icons you want gone.

Re: Mint 18.1 KDE

It is highly doubtful that the newest processor and motherboard sets will not have Linux compatibility. Windows/Microsoft's share of server software is very small. While personal computers make up a good portion of the hardware sales, without servers what good is a personal computer? Portable device...

Re: Linux antivirus story and question.

There was an exploit for windows back then that was called WinNuke. It would automatically start deleting the Windows System folder one item at a time and there was no way to stop it. You could embed or hide it within a jpg or other image file and opening/viewing the image file would activate it. Si...

Re: Is there a audio equalizer that actually works?

After installing PulseAudio Equalizer open System Settings> Multimedia> and click on Audio and Video to the left. When the options open click on "LADSPA Plugin Multiband EQ on Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" and click the Prefer button at the bottom. Do this for all sections for Audio that you wish to...

Re: Linux Mint 18.1 “Serena” KDE released!

Very nice update and many thanks to Clem, the development team, testers, and Kubuntu team. I did a test in virtual machine of upgrading from fresh install of Mint 18 KDE using Mint Updater to upgrade to 18.1 KDE. It went flawlessly with no errors or crashes. Everyone should update because Plasma 5.8...

Re: KDE Plasma 5.8

Darn I just went back to 17.3 from 18 because the plasma was too buggy to be productive. I still have 18 on another partition, I will have to give 5.8 a try. The Mint and Kubuntu teams have done a good job testing and since Clem posted the proper Kubuntu backports to install Plasma 5.8 in Linux Min...

Re: KDE Plasma 5.8

Thanks for the update for Plasma 5.8.4! It is much more stable than the 5.6 version that was available when Mint 18 KDE was released. So far no KWin crashes and all widgets work as expected. I am looking forward to Mint 18.1 KDE and hope it come with Plasma 5.8.4 LTS version. Just did an update usi...

old:You saying I need GC or a Windows version of Fx? Sorry for the delay in answering lol no Firefox for linux 49.0.1 includes the ability to enable DRM (WideVine) content in preferences.
