Hmmm, I am getting that same message: Error: no longer provides linux-firmware. Not sure what is going on with that package, but I am doing a little research into it. When somebody asks you for the output of a command, you should give them the entire output of the command, rather than partial infor...

Strange that it allowed you to download but gives you that doesn't supply firmware error. I would try cd Desktop sudo dpkg -i linux-firmware_1.157.4_all.deb And see if it works. nope. Is it Mint 17 or 18? What is the desktop environment? XFCE? MATE? Cinnamon? KDE? if you don't know, then click on that Terminal icon and enter inxi -Fxz and press enter.
