boot in compatibility mode, it will introduce the irqpoll kernel parameter. Interrupt the initial countdown timer to see the option.

Re: linuxmint crashes and freezes constantly

I've tried using 19.3 linuxmint on this lenovo laptop aswell, but 19.3 OS would not work at all on this laptop on liveboot. Sorry yes it was LM19.2 that i tested. I tried testing LM19.2 with secure boot disabled just then, it still doesn't work at all. 19.2LM crashes straight away on liveboot 19.2 ...

Re: Installed Linux Mint now monitor goes black every 5ish seconds

The latest kernel is 4.15.0-66 and you're on 4.15.0-54 so there's a problem. Although if it's happening in BIOS then you have some hardware issue. The temps are reporting low though, well quite low. Sensors: System Temperatures: cpu: 20.0 C mobo: N/A gpu: radeon temp: 23 C Fan Speeds (RPM): N/A My g...

Re: Installed Linux Mint now monitor goes black every 5ish seconds

That's an older kernel. Did the problem start happening after some update?

Update the kernel. There should be an update available in the Update Manager.

Show us the info or URL from command: upload-system-info

And are you using a convertor of any type for the monitor?

Re: Installing / running linux with nividia problem

Oh, sorry, I didn't get notification of these responses. What I would think, is that since the Mint live session is not using an extremely new kernel, then I would do the install using the onboard graphics. Afterward, get the nvidia gpu set up. There's no issue in doing this after the fact. So, #1. ...

Re: Attempt to mount a file system with type vfat in SSI1(0,0,0),partition#1(sda)at/boot/efi failed

delete the mint related sda 5,6,7. the disk is mbr (see type = dos) so max 4 logical partitions. use legacy mode. Now you have Windows at sda 1,2,3. The next move is creating an extended partition(a container) as the 4th partition. Then you can easily create more logical partitions within the extend...

Re: [Solved] Xfce Update Manager

the pic from earlier showed nano, and that's not the same as mousepad. In that pic, in nano, there's more to the file. ;) EDITOR=xed sudoedit /etc/xdg/autostart/mintupdate.desktop you could have EDITOR defined in .bashrc of course and it wouldn't open in nano. anyway, I like the non-delay of Update ...

So it's normal with no delay? Still leaves the question why my terminal output is a bunch of odd looking characters for:

Code: Select all

sudoedit /etc/xdg/autostart/mintupdate.desktop
Unless I'm misunderstanding that post.
Those are translations for other languages for the 'Name' text.

Re: Installing / running linux witg nividia problem

show the info, or URL from command: upload-system-info You might have to install the nvidia driver since it's possible the open source nouveau driver will not handle that card correctly. But it also depends on the kernel. Using 19 will have a more recent kernel, and also if you update 19 first it wi...

Hi Vilsen,

I can get you started. Check out the Release Notes. The section for "Solving Freezes" has some info about using the nomodeset parameter. https://www.linuxmint.com/rel_tina_cinnamon.php

Re: Is the only difference between Mint and Ubuntu the Desktop Environment?

I think we all focused solely on the topic title, but, as to the reasoning of the topic, it's this(but we all just skipped over this part as it's the default base knowledge of the situation really): one immediate difference I have noticed that is when Mint suspends, the laptop generates no heat, whi...

Re: linuxmint crashes and freezes constantly

You need to be running Mint 19.2. Well actually you don't have to , since you could install a recent but "unsupported" kernel in 18.3 although that's going to be more work all the way around. A very new laptop like that will have the least resistant path taking 19.2 and moving to one of the latest k...

Re: Cannot replace Mint Xfce 32-bit 18.3 with 19.2

So, if no hardware acceleration, then something like this, option 2: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hardware-acceleration-and-windowblinds-crash It runs fine on the live session because there is only a generic graphics driver setup, whereas this is one and where any hardware acceleration is sp...

Re: Is the only difference between Mint and Ubuntu the Desktop Environment?

The direct answer to the topic is, quite, no. It is the difference between Ubuntu "Flavors"(which is only the difference of DE) and Ubuntu "derivative": https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuFlavors Also, you can customize a Mint DE to have the look and feel of Unity which is a fine solution rather than put...

And there's probably a simple way to format that output better, other than it coming out on 3 individual lines. Thanks! I changed the format to get the conky output in 1 line Locatie VPN Server: $alignr ${execi 9001 wget -qO- ipinfo.io 2> /dev/null | grep -oP '(?<="city": ")(\w+)'} - ${execi 9001 w...

Re: Don't use spaces in directory names.

Also to add. You can use path/name autocomplete(that's the TAB key), interactively anyway, and it will automatically give you an escaped space in the completion(\ ). So it's not a deal breaker to use spaces.
