Re: stuck with first download

If a download does not complete then the file will be named whatever-file-name.something.part . You will want to check the specific install instructions and it will mention the process. I can tell you that when you are double-clicking that file you will not have the correctly elevated permissions to...

Re: Got 19.3 running on Core Duo imac. What to do next to run as a home server?

Good! You can ipv6.disable=1 in /etc/default/grub boot parameter, and rebuild sudo update-grub . I don't know if avahi-daemon is relevant in a server setting. It's not relevant in plenty of my situations but in this highly networked oriented one I don't know, being on the server side. Is there any a...

Re: New Mint user Questions about install

It's not really a VM, you shouldn't think of it that way, and also it's not strictly running in ram, but the fact is that it's a read-only setup. You can get some write ability but it's just persistent in memory. It used to be common to use a persistenced live scheme where some things could be saved...

Re: Linux Mint 20 takes a lot of time to load

I would try that one: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=! acpi_osi='Windows 2009' " and I would try that: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=noirq" The first one would be an attempt to just correct the whole system overall in relation to how the kernel is trying to detect ...

Re: Got 19.3 running on Core Duo imac. What to do next to run as a home server?

Hi slackerdad, Welcome. I'm not familiar with 17.3 and that's EOL end-of-life so never receiving any updates, security or otherwise, but on any of the supported system(18.x, 19.x, 20) you can check services that are handled with the systemd scheme and use some management there. And you could equally...

Re: Make XFCE 'lighter'

Guys, is conky really a standard component of Mint XFCE? No, it's not at all, but the user was using it before. For me the biggest speed fix would be using an SSD. Using a newer model magnetic disk would be notable too, although not as big of a comparison difference. Adding ram, which is probably l...

Sorry for late reply by the way You don't want to do that. Don't edit grub and make those test parameter permanent. ...

Hi Auracle, Welcome. I suspect you could've ended up better by coming here prior to the previous 24 hour period. Most of us have realized, many from first-hand-experience, that you can't just throw an absurdly mixed triple monitor setup without any customized driver or tailoring and have it d...

Re: "AMD-Vi: Unable to read/write to IOMMU perf counter" at boot

It looks fine.

You could go into the uefi system and turn off the virtualization options if you like, but don't do that if you plan to use a virtual machine.

And the drivers look good too.

Great! The two versions of scantailor you see are both flatpak packages from the flathub repository. It will show the details in each page of the Software Manager there. As for snap Authy, I have no idea. There are restrictions to how programs are run in this snap environment and I don't know the an...

Re: How to verify Linux Mint 20 ISO

It works at this moment for me too. It might be a problem with using an IPv6 connection on a not-fully-supported network. In my case, if I do any of the typical website tests for IPv6 I get a 0 rating, there is not yet any support at my ISP. If I connect with ethernet cable then there is no problem,...

Re: Frequent System Freeze

You can run inxi -Irxxxz for those 2 sections. Show us that, because that also shows the amount of memory the pc has. You are showing a swap partition of 4GB and at that time it was showing 2% used which means at some point you were getting near into the upper 20% of the memory usage. /swap should ...

Great news! That's excellent!

Yes, I figured you had at least seen some instructions, to get to that point, I just wasn't positive which version was involved. I figured to give more detail, than less, I was just walking myself through it. ;)

Re: Frequent System Freeze

The Repo: and Info: sections are missing from the inxi report. Was that a mistake? or was output truncated, which would point at some issue. You can run inxi -Irxxxz for those 2 sections. Since I installed LM in this computer I noticed that there is always a tendency for a system freeze That means y...

Re: Can't install .bin file (nix pre-installed in multi user mode error)

The forum link you provide refers to version 1.0.0 and is associated with system version Ubuntu 16.04 which is equal with Mint 18.x. You are using Mint 19.x which is equal with Ubuntu 18.04 base version(Bionic). And you are trying to install Daedalus 2.2.0, or are you? (you should be, because that's...
