Re: Linux Mint 20 installation setup has no choice for setting the bootloader to which disk

The debian installer is not the ubuntu ubiquity installer and the ubuntu installer is not the debian installer, and mint doesn't have an installer though one where the devs are building it and working on it. Not sure who to request that feature from. I'd like a feature to not install a bootloader at...

Re: Screen Drivers

I am trying out Linux because I can see that continuing with Windows is gradually going to get more expensive. I have taken an old machine, Aventis 9115, which I think might be 15 tears old. I have loaded Mint 20 and selected Cinamon. The current screens are al, bigger than my display. When the mac...

Re: Not able to upgrade to Mint 20 Ulyana from 19.3 Tricia

did you remove all the ppa's? remove software first, downgrade packages, remove the ppa sources? you can do a reinstall of the packages you have listed there. so you might: apt reinstall package package package --simulate to see what might happen if you didn't do it as a simulation. that's almost st...

Re: Windows Photo Gallery & Wine

Hi J and zcot, My apologies for what appears to have been a stupid suggestion. However I did explain that it was compatible with Ubuntu 18.04 and might possibly work. I hope you weren't put to too much trouble J to get things returned to normal, Think I'll keep quiet in future  or at least tr...

Re: Do I need ImageMagick on my system?

It seems you are saying that Calibre depends on ImageMagick (?) That's fine--does Linux Mint 20 otherwise need Imagemagick? Otherwise, I had Calibre installed on two older versions of Mint and never saw anything called Imagemagick. Thanks for your kind attention. Sorry, I was showing terminal comma...

Bummer, that was a setup for a crash and burn. Kester, let's please be conscientious about winging out any untested recommendation. We know JTemple is on Mint 20. Check with the pink note at the top of forum thread here about how to get help, and use that inxi info to show us. ( inxi -Fxxxrz ) The upgrade should be straight-forward enough, -well it's a fairly complex set of events, and can be further complicated with the more 3rd party programs that might've ...

Re: XFCE Lightdm how to change login/lock screen time format

As I mentioned, you can build it yourself. You can see the implementation right there (line 342): https://github.com/linuxmint/slick-greeter/blob/master/src/menubar.vala#L339 One open report about it is there: https://github.com/linuxmint/slick-greeter/issues/98 I will write build instructions if yo...

Re: XFCE Lightdm how to change login/lock screen time format

slick-greeter is not supporting it right now. Lightdm handles that setup but slick-greeter is the implementation on top of it. You could rebuild that package without too much hassle and just change the hard coded value for a 12 hr clock representation instead. I did that a few versions ago and looke...

Re: How to Change Resolution in [Logon-Screen] of GDM

Using Cinnamon, I'm not sure how far you can even get quality-wise using any different window manager, much less potentially any variety of them. From my knowledge Cinnamon is designed with Muffin, and that's it. Ok it's a fork of Mutter but I'm not even sure you get a full quality functionality if ...

Re: How to Change Resolution in [Logon-Screen] of GDM

from the man gdm command, I would want to make sure gdm is in fact setup correctly since it's not default from an install, and there are some points about configuration for resolution which will be relevant there.

Re: On $ sudo apt update shows Wine release file missing. Also shows message on startup

you can remove that repository source from within the "Software sources" program found in the main menu. You will look on the tabs for "additional repositories" or "ppa". On that area, you can uncheck the source which would disable the repository source only, but it will be mandatory to select the e...

Re: Troubleshoot 19.3 Xcfe 64bit Kernel upgarde

Hi Alex_Fl, Welcome.

Boot the previous kernel using the grub menu advanced option, then you can go back into the system, the Update Manager -> View menu - Linux kernels and remove that most recent updated kernel. Now you can boot normally and it will use the previous kernel as default.

Re: Mint 20 upgrade

Test run? Ah, what is that? Is that in the upgrade instructions? No, like, if you have daily use of programs A, B, and C and then you find that B, and C do not have support on the 20 base. Or maybe the 5.4 kernel will freak out on your hardware and you have to go digging for days to find out some w...
