Re: How to make the login/lock screen clock am/pm rather than 24hr

Activate the option to set a custom format. In the default format replace the letter H with an I (big i). Or, if you want to get 12 hour format in general: Deactivate the 24 hour option in the Date & Time settings of the system. I deactivated the 24 hour clock in date and time when I first installe...

How to make the login/lock screen clock am/pm rather than 24hr

Where, if at all, would I look to change the lock screen clock to am/pm rather than 24hr? I looked through the login screen settings and didn't see the option there.

[SOLVED] How to switch from guest user on lock screen

Ok, dumb question. My son accidentally clicked guest on the lock screen and now I can't logon. The only option is guest. I can change the DE but see no option to change user. *edit* I feel like a gigantic idiot. The image I had as the background had white clouds and my username was unable to be seen...

Re: Remove Chrome keyring prompts

If the password is set as empty, all content of the keyring is in plain text, readable for everybody. Thanks Cosmo. I tried for myself and saw that they were indeed stored as plain text. So, I did the mature thing and made it require a password on login......then I disabled password prompts on wake...

Re: Remove Chrome keyring prompts

https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/tips#TOC-Disable-the-keyring-password Thanks for the link man. There were a lot of useful tips in there. Unfortunately, it only answered the second part of my question, not the first. If the passwords are now being stored unhashed and unencrypted, ...

[SOLVED] Remove Chrome keyring prompts

This is a two fold question. So, as some of you may know, I've previously asked about removing keyring prompts and was told it wasn't good to remove them. I had previously decided to just have a blank password. First, after some reading, I'm curious if my stored passwords, while unencrypted, are sto...

Re: Just now noticing LMDE. Are there big differences between Debian and Ubuntu?

I would stick with the main edition if I were you, although LMDE is a bit lighter on system resources. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=236&t=257540 MintBean, thanks for the link. I searched the forums for my topic before I posted and even did a little manual digging and didn't find any...

Just now noticing LMDE. Are there big differences between Debian and Ubuntu?

So I'm coming up on my one year anniversary of being Windows free. I've mainly used Mint 18.2 on my laptop and Ubuntu on my HTPC. I just noticed Mint LMDE (Betsy) which says its package base is Debian rather than Ubuntu. Up until this point I had assumed There was no functional difference between De...

Good resource(s) for installing games?

After making the permanent switch to Linux ~9 months ago, I decided about 3 months ago to only support developers whom natively support Linux. There are some great sourceports out there that allow me to play some classic, previously "Windows Only" software. I've also found tools like PlayOnLinux, an...

Why does most software outside the software manager come in tarballs and source rather than .deb?

Why do seemingly so few developers put out .deb packages? Every cool piece of software I think I would like is either tarballs or source. Inevitably I'll miss dependencies, then I have to hunt for them, then I'll install them, then I'll compile and low and behold, there were errors compiling. I'll t...

[SOLVED] ECWolf Save location?

I'm trying to backup my saves for Wolfenstein3D. I play using the ECWolf source port. I'm unable to locate the save files. Does anyone know what directory/path the save files are located? *edit* After about 2 hours googling and searching, I found it. They're located in ".local/share/ecwolf/savegames"

Why don't controllers function if they're turned on after a game starts?

This isn't a big issue, but I'm curious as to why most games will not recognize my Wireless Xbox 360 controller after it has power cycled or if they're turned on after most games are loaded. I say most, because this doesn't really happen in Steam games, but it does in most non Steam titles I can thi...

Re: Opinion: What is the biggest single hurdle keeping Linux becoming more "mainstream"?

Do you think "Grandma down the street", some foggy faceless "families without techie relatives" care? In turn, it means nothing what they're going to adopt. At least they give back some money to MS and Apple even if they don't care and can't appreciate what's being done for them while a free and op...

Can a thread be "bumped" multiple times?

I know on the forum rules it says "no bumping" until after 48 hours. I asked a question about a week ago and bumped it after 48 hours. It has since been several days with no response and the bump option is gone. Is there anyway to bump it again or should I just delete the post and repost it?

Re: Batch creating folders based on file names.

Can you be a bit more explicit about what it is you want? I.e., "create folders named after the filename"; it is not the expectation that you want a bunch of folders containing just one file, so is the "selection of files" a set of files with for example the same base name and only a different exte...

Batch creating folders based on file names.

I'm an organizational freak....even digitally. I'm looking to create a simple script that I can execute that will take a selection of files, create folders named after the filename, then move said files into the newly created folder. How would I go about doing this? And, is there software that alrea...

Re: [LM 18.1 Cinnamon] Shutdown nearly impossible

I know a few users along with myself found that if Steam is running in the background, shutting down would not function. I am newer to the command line but I believe the command is "sudo shutdown -P now". "-r" can be used to restart as well. I hope that helps.

Re: Any good 2d stealth game(s) like Counterspy?

I don't know Counterspy but if you like stealth games try The Dark Mod. It is based on Thief, is open source and does not require Steam. http://www.thedarkmod.com/main/ Thanks for the suggestion. I love thief. I bought and played the first three at launch. I also bought the latest one last year. I ...

Any good 2d stealth game(s) like Counterspy?

I haven't played Counterspy in a long time. And since I'm no longer a PS Plus subscriber, I'm looking for a similar type of 2d stealth game that is on Linux. Does anyone have any suggestions?
