Very long installation time from downloading language packs

I downloaded a Mint 18.3 x64 (Cinnamon) iso from the main website the other day on my laptop where I had Ubuntu 17.04 installed. I used the default "Startup Disk Creator" to make a USB installation medium. I ran the installation in both UEFI and BIOS and both took a few minutes to get to the actual ...

How can I install OpenRCT2 with the Steam version of Rollercoaster Tycoon 2?

Does anyone know how I can install OpenRCT2 and use my copy from Steam? I've tried Lutris, where I'm getting an apparently common error. I tried PlayOnLinux....which only supports the GOG version for some reason. And the "guides", if you could call them that, available are incredibly convoluted. No ...

Re: What desktop environment is this....

This is Ubuntu 17.10 with - a normal Gnome session (not an Ubuntu session, see http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/10/install-vanilla-gnome-shell-ubuntu-17-10) - the Dash to Panel extension added (https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1160/dash-to-panel/) - and the La Capitaine icon theme (https://kro...

What desktop environment is this....

Would anyone mind viewing the video below and telling me what DE this person is using? It looks like Gnome3 but different than I've seen implemented in Ubuntu 17.10. Would Gnome3 look like this on top of Mint? Thank you in advance.

That's the way your Linux is set up, by default. It's been surprising people for years now... https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/180818/gnome-nautilus-copy-files-to-usb-stops-at-100-or-near Whenever a file significantly larger than dirty_ratio % of the RAM is being copied, the write-buffer fo...

Re: Transferring file to flash drive not working.

I have found the same problem with a USB2 device. USB3 is much faster. I think the software fills a buffer with data to be transferred which is fairly fast. The actual transfer takes a lot longer, once the buffer is full everything seems to slow down. Thanks for this. While I appreciated Mute Ant's...

I wish I would have saw your thread so I didn't post an additional one. At any rate, assuming you are referring to a Lenovo Yoga, did you figure this out? My thread.. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=252474 I haven't even tried it tbh. I wanted to do it for my wife's laptop, then s...

Re: Net Neutrality

Net neutrality guarenteed that, if a user wanted to connect to an information source, he/she could. Let me start by stating I think Net Neutrality is essential to an open internet, and that I think eliminating those rules will hurt consumers. I did a poor job of stating my points. First, comparing ...

Re: Net Neutrality

Who they are ? is simple... Is 1% of the population Besides the fact that doesn't answer to what end, it implies that a large group of people have collectively met and decided they're going to control the people, systems, and devices at every level without anyone finding out about it. If anyone thi...

Re: Consider preinstalling Waterfox starting from Linux Mint 19. Firefox cannot be trusted anymore.

Watch Bryan Lunduke video to know why. And watch it, and watch it, and watch it. I put up with 7 minutes and 15 seconds of it, and he still hadn't got to the point. Blah, blah, blah. If he has something to say, he needs to learn how to say it faster. I gave up. I totally agree. I do like Brian Lund...

I do not have the capacity to understand laws and etc ... The only thing I understand about it all is that, they want to deploy this model of Marketplace in worldwide, physical and virtual. Re: Transferring file to flash drive not working.

Is your flash drive formatted as FAT32? If so, that may be the problem. FAT32 doesn't support files that are close to 4GB and over. If you can, reformat the drive as NTFS or if the flash drive won't be used by Windows, format it in EXT4. ........I'm trying to take a windows iso to a windows compute...

Transferring file to flash drive not working.

I have tried copying/pasting using ctrl-c/ctrl-v, right clicking copy/paste, as well as dragging and dropping. It seems whenever I transfer large files in Nemo to a USB flash drive it just gets stuck for a few minutes, then asks if I want to wait or force quit. Also, according to Nemo, the transfer ...

Panels and windows occasionally become hazy

Guys, I'm not sure why I'm getting this....and maybe this belongs in the cinnamon forum.....but if I pull my cursor off the panel, it begins to blur a bit. When I move my cursor back over the bar, it comes in focus again. When I checked panel settings, there was nothing to control this, so I'm assum...

Re: Net Neutrality

Thanks for the reply. I agree, there are plenty of sites out there that give factual information. The problem is, and the original point I was trying to make, is that far too many people DO NOT USE THEM. They simply participate in group-think and if someone says "Net neutrality good... repeal bad" ...
