Re: Screen Blacking out after several minutes after installing alongside Windows 10

For future reference, this line tells you what is trying to run- Display Server: X.Org 1.18.4 drivers: (unloaded: fbdev, vesa) FAILED: intel, nouveau Which means the nvidia card is not being loaded, and the intel is failing to load. I did not include the resolution, assuming you know what your max res...

Our drive is is finding cures,as well as the promotion of mint. We also keep the spirit of linux by being volunteers as well. There are o'plenty of miners using nix. Many of them using mint. Hopefully they support the distros they are using.

Re: Vega 8 Linux Mint Problems

For testing purposes: You could DL and install the latest Ubuntu(18.04). If it works properly with kernal 4.15 and up( you will have to try several). Then the issue is with mint at that point. OR try all the different kernals( in Mint) 4.15 and up to find the best. 4.18 might not be the best and sti...

intel microcode? Going to assume there is a setting in the bios to turn off the onchip/onboard graphics. Going to also assume you turned it to disabled.

DST is invalid from the purpose of its inception. It was created to save energy. However, developed nations are, or near 24/7 operation. Its numbers on a dial versus the sun. Your body can adjust. I have worked offshift in manufacturing for over 20 years. I am not a daywalker.

Re: Replace Radeon HD5850 with GTX650 - how to?

1) go to hardware manager and verify you are on open source drivers for AMD. if not change to them and reboot. 2) power down pc and replace card. 3) turn on PC and the Kernal will load open source nvidia drivers. 4) enjoy your new card or go to driver manager and look for closed source drivers With ...

Re: Vega 8 Linux Mint Problems

As far as i know Mobile and APU, do not have drivers.(Media centers? i know right. stupid AMD!) And only have open source as a driver set. I do not own a raven ridge yet, so i cannot say what path to go down.

What are my options here.

We have a new generation of Mint before us. And once again, I will have to do a clean install. With this comes losing all the tweaks I have made etc.I could "upgrade", but that has the ability to be messy. It might be time for a change for my daily driver. My needs are minimal. Browser, calculator,h...

Re: SSD: How many x can it be erased?

I ran my first SSd's for years in windows under raid. The OCZ Core version 2 is a second generation SSD. Under RAID, I had no TRIMM support or anything. I even had a small section for caching. Still using these drives in other PC's now. They are still working, even with a cache area. They sill have ...

Re: AMDGPU-Pro on Mint Mate 19?

Mobile and APU are not supported for Mint 18+ for proprietary drivers. Your options are open source only. For 17.3 you will have the old FGLRX drivers available. However 17.3 is only supported until 2019. As per the sticky at the top of this forum subsection. The new vega based 2200g and 2400g may b...

For sake of clarity, Please explain the difference between the driver sets, and why one would chose the non-pro driver. To be honest, I myself have no idea what the non pro driver is designed for.

Murph,
As a mobile user you will have open source only as an option. As per the first post of this thread.
Thanks, but do the open source drivers work worth a darn?
